King difficulty + presence of peat moss encourages the usage of Size1 trick. However, a river nearby for quick settlement+2 settler start also discourages it. Wonder what your opinions are on the matter. Esp. since small maps are seriously liable to possess choppy/uneven terrain (can't expand very quickly).

Big question is regarding ocean access. If so, OCC would be very good since small map=better/quicker trades. Site might suck tho, esp. pre-Explosives.

Not sure what King difficulty has to do with it, but the presence of peat is definitely an enabler for size 1 though forests are sufficient for that purpose; Peat is just quicker.
You are right that the map generator typically produces rough terrain at small size; the smaller the map the worse the terrain is. Furthermore, despite the archipelago setting we are likely to get one huge continent from the map generator. But the continent numbers indicate that at least in that regard things may not be too bad.
While I have not thought about it much, I am inclined to play OCC. I will probably send a settler on the river for exploration and some early hut hunting.
