DoM, When you said 'flat map', you really meant it didn't you!!!! ;)

I just finished. I really enjoyed that game. I think the map suited my playing style, and I got my best spaceship finish.

Well, it's my first time that i take part in a GOTM, and i think i was lucky to start with this one. I'm not finished yet and maybe things get worse, but playing as king, isn't really hard, is it?
I hope I haven't done anything wrong so far, i mean break the rules or something, and we will see when everybody is finished.
As this is my first post in this forum, I want to say hello to everybody, respect, and I really love CIVII the same as you do.
Good Luck building your empires

Welcome Alexxx
and good luck with building YOUR empire.

Mine is running smoothly at the moment. I even managed 2techs/turn several turns before Automobile. But I have a feeling that the early game went slowly (the AI civs were so weak that they couldn't help my research at all, before I started massive tech gifting to the Mongols).
Hope to land before xxxAD :crazyeye:

:hmm: Flat? As in a lack of impregnable defensive positions? As in a lack of places where troops can congregate? :p

Jayne, you're finished? Whatever will you do for the rest of the month?

My start was slow i think, and i kind of still not good at doing the Super Science City thing, i made my Capital to be the SSC and it only produce less than 200 beakers :( Anyone out there can teach me the correct way? Using this GOTM it will be easier to me to learn. I am getting like 5 turns research which is not good enough, i am still the most advance and will win the game but my spaceship will be launch late :( The whole game i lost 2 cities, haven't finish the game so maybe more (cause the Mongols is the one who keep pouding my cities with crusiers and iron clad) 1 city lost to babarians :)D accidentally), 1 to mongols after they sacrified like 20 ships and 10+ units :)

First time playing King so i guess it is not too bad afterall.

Hi Lee2003

Well, for me it was a great help to play a OneCityChallenge, with the help of the documents provided somewhere in the forum.
Yeah, that was a cool experience which made my understanding of CIVII even more deeper.
Well as I read your postings about GOTM31, I'm really not so sure, if i will find myself in the HOF at the end, but anyway, it was, and in my case, is great fun playing it.

Yep! Apart from the fact you can't cross the date-line, I don't remember encountering one hill or mountain!

Jayne, you're finished? Whatever will you do for the rest of the month?

Yes - finished already! It took 3 or 4 days of playing - but I get lot's of time to play as I'm at home all day looking after my daughter.

As for the rest of the month, there's the Civ II demogame and succession game here, plus Alpha Centuri PBEM and 2 demogames at Gamecatcher.

Ahhh, the life of an active civver. :goodjob:

I not sure what i did wrong with the SSC. I got all the wonders that is needed. I have colossus, the wonder comes with astronomy(i forgot the name), the newton university. All the required wonders for SSC i had it, of course the later one i don't have it yet because i don't have the technology yet. I have library and university built as well. i think i made one trade route only, 2 more to go but i guess that would not be too much difference right? i mean i read some one doing it like close to 800 beakers :(

You have to have three good trade routes, all terrain around city with roads or railways or sea and of course large city. If you have democracy, SCC usually celebrates automatically due to a lot of beakers - you should have city size around 30 - than you can receive even more than 1000 beakers in the the one city - for OCC it is neccessary.

Lee, if you would like to read a good discussion about the Super Science City (SSC), follow this link:

Hope that this helps!

Well, I've started, and am trying not to play too carelessly. I'm at 300 AD, have a half dozen wonders, 30+ techs and about ten cities -- feeling a bit pinched in that I want more of everything.

Very nice to start quietly in the corner -- the first few huts yielded two archers, a barb & 100 coins -- overall, rather nice.

Haven't decided if I should acquire some pre-built cites early or not. :sniper:

I started out thinking of conquering the world, which is the biggest challenge. I then found out that I was doing very well with the wonders, so I tried the challenge of building them all. There were some early close calls, but I got them all.
In the end, I had only the carthagenians to finish off, but they were spread out, and not easy to finish off since they stayed in democracy for the remainder of the game. I got tired of it, and built a spaceship and a big empire.

Sorry: my shorthand. Pasarga is short for the next city name on the Persian list, Pasargadae. Whenever a hut tries to create an "Advanced Tribe" (AT), it chooses the next available city name from the civ's list. In this game I am playing One City Challenge, so it is prohibited that I have a second city at any time. Whenever I enter a hut I save the game just before and reload if it is an "Advanced Tribe". I was getting very frustrated with all of the ATs because a majority of the huts were on grass, which seems to increase the likelyhood of ATs.

When I write "Mongol (6Sp)" I am referring to the left hand panel that appears at the beginning of a diplomatic exchange (F3, "Send Emissary"). This panel displays the Power Rating of the contacted civ as a number of SPears (or SPoons, depending on your video resolution) from zero to six. Zero means they are Pathetic, which also means their KeyCiv is White, while Six SPears means they are Supreme, and their KeyCiv is Purple. I track the Power Ratings because you can ask an allied civ of greater Power for gifts, while one of lesser Power will express "Sympathy" but not give anything. The Power Rating is based on number of citizens, number of Techs and amount of Gold. There is a formula for these somewhere in the War Academy. After getting Invention the panel changes to Arrows, then later to Rifles and finally to Rockets.

BTW, welcome to CFC! I hope you give the GOTM a try!

Thanks for the quick reply! I played the GOTM earlier this month and it was a blast (no pun intented). I landed a spaceship in 1910 but I should've landed many years before that time. I got caught up in a Fundamentalist war stage in the early 1800's and proceed to purge the Aztecs, Mongols and Russian with a load of howitzers, tanks, and spys.

I did received at least 5 ATs during my game including three in row during the BC era. I built a nice SSC but had a couple of close cities that shared spaces with it.

I was amazed by the amount of cheating by the Mongols, Aztecs, and Russians during my game. Despite having spys located in each border city, their diplomats had no problem stealing techs or bribing cities.

Bribing cities can be prevented by using Democracy or keeping a large treasury, because bribe prices are based in part on the target treasury. Techs can only be stolen once from any one city, so guard your borders and beware transports with unknown loads approaching your ports. This is really not a "cheat" like shorter AI build times and unsinkable Triremes, but they often have less problems with their Senate. I gather you took out the Spanish somewhere early on, to get the Aztecs restarted?

I was in fundy at the time and the city was a former Russian city that the Mongols overran than I overran. I started building forts on choke points to keep them out. I believe one of the other AI civs took out the Spanish very early in the game. In fact, Madrid was under barbarian control when I found it.

I need to the learn the art of tech gifting. I am learning more and more each day from these forums.
