GOTM 37 Results and Congratulations

To all: Congrats.

This was my best finish on diety ever, and at least I didn't lose to a French Space Race for the fourth month in a row. Well, it just happened to be a Carthage space race that beat me, but at least it wasn't France. I made the mistake of using Carthage as a universal ally instead of the world's punching bag, and even though I had a large chunk of the eastern half, Carthage had most of the west except for my starting area and a few culture flipped cities.

AlanH: Think you can make an 'awards' chart for the shield awards? I think with this month's game(38) I might be getting close to having a full set of lowest-scoring victories. I propose the "Golden Ambulance" award(graphic coming soon) for collecting all 8 low-scoring awards(or maybe exclude the Red Ambulance...I doubt anyone would intentionally lose a game in order to get a special award).

Of course they wouldn't. That would make it all the more exclusive - and I'm on my way to getting it. Can I convince you that the award I've gotten is the hard one? (The red ambulance should be included, but not the green one, as it is a high scoring award. If it were required for the collected-all-high-score-awards award, we might see some interesting endings.)

Well, the problem with including the red ambulance is that if everyone decides to go for it in the same month, you run into problems with competition and everything, and the scores kinda get skewed. The green ambulance, as i see it, is sort of a consolation for playing a really great game....but not quite winning. For example a well-milked game ready for domination goes bad when the last remaining civ somehow sneaks in a space race victory. (The better players would never let this happen, as they'd wear them down to a single size 1 non-coastal tundra city.)

I'm also getting to work on the ambulance model :

Obviously I need to add things like tires, fix up bad geometry(my worst problem with modeling), and put some good lighting on it(that's just temporary defaults on it now).

Ainwood taught me everything I know. You wait until there's a map just begging for fast domination victories, then play for a mediochre conquest. He won a conquest award a while back as the only conquest victory, and now I've fluked one as the slightly faster of only two.

But don't worry, you're still ahead of me in the GR table ..... just
