GOTM 38 Final Spoiler - Game Submitted

????? Any source I can think of should be reflected in the upper left figure.

Can you go back to test it?

????? Any source I can think of should be reflected in the upper left figure.

Can you go back to test it?

Yes, I've tested it. Building research decrease my treasury. Building explorers increase my treasury. :goodjob:

Oracle: T60 - 1600 BC (CS). T69
Academy: T161 - 1010 AD ()forgot to search my autolog, but certainly earlier :)
Liberalism: T178 -1180 AD (Biology)T150
Future Tech: T269 - 1795 AD FT1 learned @T258, but had to backfill a few other techs after some health/happy issues were solved by FTn :)

I was building research in all cities, apart from two, who built explorers (overflow => ~200 coins), which enabled 100% research rate. Got a bunch of great people due to running pacifisms and farmed all cities :)
Cool trick, it hasn't occurred to me - and don't listen to your MW teammate ;), hammer to gold overflow in Vanilla has been adjusted to match Warlords code since HoF mod v.1.61.008 - at least its changelog version says so (a quick test on one of my late game saves also suggests so).

Don't cry, it's already fixed in inofficial patch .21. Let's wait for patch - or new HoF Mod.

Fast teching space game.

Yahooooooo. I did not change my game plan for once. As planned we annexed Roman, French, Arab and Mongol lands. Mongol war was unnessaccery and took place while the last ship part was being made because one of the captured Arab cities fliped to Mongolia and I had a bunch of Tanks, Marines, Granadiers artillary, and knights sitting around. And in the process ended up loosing Paris to 3 keshiks . How funny?

By 500 AD we had,

CS - T72
Mids - T89
Oracle for Education T96
Academy - T98
Gunpowder - 275 BC (T104) I thought about conquest for a moment
GLibrary - T110
Economics - T131 and DoWed Ceasar
finally in 520 AD T138 learned Replaceable parts.

By now Persia had at least 9 home grown cities and one Barb and two Roman cities. Oxford was built in the Capital a bit later than hoped in 850 AD (T153) with two GScientist settled in the Cap.

Tech path took us to Electricity and then to Biology before heading to Computers via Liberalism in 1160 AD (T176). Then to Industrialism, Rocketry and plastics. After that it was genetics for the +3 health and the last essential tech, Ecology, came in at T237. Space win in 1660 AD (T242), eight turns ahead of my goal due to lucky tech selling and Goody hut settlers (2 total I think)

The a majority of last 100 turns Research was set at 70% but once the Wall street was built (very late) it turned to 100 with many merchants.

Spaceship victory, 1989 AD and THE FIRST xOTM I HAVE EVER FINISHED. :band::bounce: It's only Warlord difficulty, but I still don't play well at Noble level, so I'm quite happy about this result.

I know from the first spoiler that I made my life much more difficult by poor city placement, primarily letting the AI take some territory I eventually had to conquer. Around 1000 AD I DoW'd Rome, conquered in 1330. Around that time I had two crashes due to low graphics memory; at the first I turned things down to Medium, and on the 2nd all the way to Low. I decide a while ago that I need to upgrade my 5-year-old PC, so those problems should go away next week when it arrives.

After Rome I conquered France by 1675, bribing Ghengis to help, then settled down to work toward a spaceship victory. At some point during the French campaign, Ghengis, who was Confucian like me, invited me to attack Arabia, which I did, without actually contributing much to the war effort. Mongolia took out Arabia while I was working on France.

Unfortunately Hatchepsut seemed to be keeping up reasonably well in score, and might have been heading for a cultural victory, so I decided I had to take her out, too. It would have been a lot easier to do earlier, but romping with infantry, cannon and tank was somewhat fun anyway. I overbuilt militarily, having far more troops than I needed; I'm still a beginning warmonger, and need to learn to DoW sooner.

Had I had the energy to go on to conquer Mansa or Ghengis, I'd have won a domination victory much earlier that 1989 but I was tired of the concentration and long turns it took to beat Hatty. It took 399 turns, just under 30 hours, about 4.5 minutes per turn, spread over 6 non-consecutive days, which I figure is likely slower than many others (in minutes per turn as well as total turns needed to win).

On to GOTM 39!

My first GoTM too.

Went for a fairly aggressive domination victory, got it in 1535.

Bee-lined for maceman pretty early, then onto knights and they were my main method of city conversion.

Initial DoW was on Rome in 800BC, captured Rome in 600BC then made peace to oil the gears of war for a few centuries. Back to it in 250AD on poor Saladin, and then the rest sort of snowballed. Ghengis Khan I bribed to attack Saladin and Louis at different parts of the game to soften them up from the other side. Hatesheput and Ghengis were the only 2 remaining at the end, and I never went to war with either.

Spent half the time trying to decide what would be quicker, conquest or domination, as I sent my hordes of knights marauding around the world. Eventually went for the domination, quickly backfilling a few neglected open spots with settlers for the last few land %.

Was very interesting to play this map type, since I usually only play pangaea/continents/archipelago/shuffle.

Looking forward to the next one!

As a side note, I noticed my guys crossing rivers on roads and maintaining the extra movement - before Engineering. Is this is a HoF mod thing?

Crossing rivers on roads without loosing the extra movement is enabled once you research Construction. Engineering gives you one extra tile per movement point. This is the basic game mechanics, and is not affected by HoF. Does this answer your question?

Welcome to the GOTM series by the way! :goodjob:

Yeah I realised this while I was sitting on a bus half an hour later and incapable of accessing the forums to delete my idiocy and replace it with an inconspicuous 'ooops, double post' entry :(

Damn you, Mr Brain.

Congratulations on the first GotM victories, dalamb and JeebusGreen! :goodjob:

Two settlers from goody huts, Htadus?!?

Where can I get some of this goody hut luck? The small gold and unit XP I managed to get look rather pathetic by comparison.

Well, I finished my OCC game in some 3+ hrs. Diplo victory 1880 AD. I had to instigate some wars to wipe Louis and Mansa off the map to get the votes I needed, UN was build way earlier...

And I made a really, really, really, annoying mistake. Was trying to hold off Scientific Method for as long as possible so I could get the benefit of monasteries + Glibrary as long as possible. So I research Liberalism. Of course, I will remember to switch away from it on the last turn, complete SciMet, research/bulb physics/electricity and grab radio from Liberalism (this is when the AIs are just starting to get to Feudalism...). I even have a saved GE for the UN later, although I haven't worked very much on the AI relations yet.

Well, whaddya know. I forget to switch away from Liberalism. :wallbash::hammer2::aargh: So I get to choose between a bunch of totally useless techs. After wiping my tears I grab Nationalism.

I replied to this yesterday but it did not post.

I second that. Way to go!

I was lucky with the settlers and after finishing the game, I tried to repeat it but ended up not getting any for several attempts. Finally managed to figure out how to get the first settler (repeatedly) but could not get the second. What is worst in the real game was what I did with the second settler. With all that open space available, I build a city next to Rome to get the Gems. I should have gone by Hatty to get the awsome production site with wine, two cows, two Wheat and many plains tiles. But I was lucky and I think my space date reflect that.

Man I hate when that happens. :gripe: It is sooooo frustrating. My two biggest mishaps are Building the Oracle before Math is done after getting CoL and building the Pyramids and not switching to Rep while employing many scientist and my larger cities are in red. At least I do get Philo for the Oracle.

I've always thought if I had any chance to ever win an award it would have to be a sneaky cow. I started playing this game with that in mind. Then I wavered back to space, but right after I built the Apollo Project I decided I had enough time for Time after all.

840 AD

Looking back my first war seems late taking out Rome from 800AD until 1200AD followed by France in 1600AD. I like to wait until catapults and macemen.

Then I took the Barb cities to the North, then Mansa, Saladin, and finally Egypt ending all war to end all wars(~1800-~1940)

It was tricky having cities come out of revolt trying to stay under the 64% domination limit! Never could quite figure out how much each tile was worth. I thought it was 0.078% per tile. Anyway it was getting down to the wire so I decided to try to stay under 62% (especially after ending one turn at 63.76% :suicide: :crazyeye: I got lucky.)

Ended up pushing it at the end finishing with 63.16%. I messed up a bunch of stuff, but I had a blast and got my highest base score ever. Thanks to the staff for the great setup.

Similar game to GOTM33 I thought (Mongols/Warlord/Pangea). - So I'll try the same tactics and see if I can improve my score.

My tactic in GOTM33 was to build Pyramids for Police State then go for domination with mounted units to cover the distance....Same plan this time.

To my amazement I got a Domination win in 1470....Exactly the same as the GOTM33 game. :hammer2: - But I failed to beat my own score.:(

Interesting bits for me...Got a barb hut settler and started my Eastern Empire (To the East of Timbuktu) quite close to the centre of the map, my thoughts being it would give me faster access to AI cities.

Took out the AI in the following order: Rome/France/Mongol/Arab/Malinese/Egyptian.....My only thoughts here being...Take out Rome before they get iron hooked up, and dont try to take out Mansu with Immortals.

Nice game to practise war mongering.
