GOTM #4 - Are we having fun yet?

It is. And in case you notice the two results of people who did retire before 2020 AD, ignore them. For some reason Thunderfall hasn't uploaded my last version of the results (without those two faulty ones).

Oh wonderful, I can't retire... That was a waste... Next time i'll know, not like I was going anywhere... I think Deity is to tough for the average player, Emporer or King would make it that much easier

I didn't know there was a 'tussenstand' (half-time thing)

Well after a nearly disastrous beginning to the Russo-Sino war, I re-grouped, got my head and my engineers together, and methodically swept the Russians off the face of the earth

Have managed to wage a similar and successful war with the English at the same time, while continuing slow expansion on the [POTENTIAL SPOILER WARNING]

continent NW of starting location. English should be gone soon.
The Vikings are almost staying abreast of me in the tech race, however, and have beaten me to several wonders, including Adam Smiths

I was close to finishing it myself, but I never saw the warning screen that they were almost done

Anyway, I've finally caught up with the Viks in population, and have way more cities, so once my war is done, which will include capturing SoL from the English, its switch to Demo and grow and research. Not going badly for my first Deity game.

Steadboy,
Can't you just play on till 2020 AD and then send it to me (again)?

willemvanoranje,
There is no tussenstand. These results should never have been there.

That might take some time.

From June 1st till June 8th, I'm gone. So I'm going to make the results today or tomorrow evening and finish it immediately when I get back. But I'm afraid you'll have to wait a week.

How do we know our games will be included in those results Matrix? I didn't get any acknowledgement when I sent my GOTM #4 off. Perhaps others are in the same position.

When is the due day for submitting? I though it was June 2.

Officially, June 1st. But in this case you can sent it the 7th. But please don't, because I have lots to do then when I get back.

Shut up TF!!!!!!!

You got almost as many points as I did and almost as fast too!!! I'm pretty sure that your performance was quite a bit above average!!

Yeah, Thunderfall!!

That better not be "average" or I'm in bigger trouble than I thought!

Excellent job.

I just submitted my game to Matrix. Compared to Thunderfall's result my performance sucks. Actually I conquered the world in 1865 but I had a horrible start. I always win on deity but I had great problems in the early years. Lots of barbarians on my island (probably the main cause that I missed some important wonders, HG in particular) and my early colonies in the island to the north were destroyed by barbarians. I didn't manage to colonize it until I sent diplomats and attacking units to the island together with the settlers.

I was not in serious danger of losing but I fell back in tech considerably even though I got lots of it when I just managed to beat the AI in the 'Marco Polo race'. So I set taxes to maximum and mounted a massive military effort (diplomats, elephants and crusaders) against the Vikings in order to get the great library. This improved the situation slightly but then the Sioux built SOL ahead of me. Arrgghhh ! I had hoped to get to fundamentalism (I was in monarchy) and wipe everyone out - a spaceship win was out of the question because my technology level sucked.

So I mounted another focused attack against the Sioux. It was supposed to be a kind of 'kamikaze operation', conquer the SOL city for a turn or two in order to get to fundamentalism, then it was OK to lose it back. But surprisingly, the Sioux were so unprepared for my attack that not only did I easily keep this city, I conquered additional cities a couple of turns later. By that time I was in fundamentalism and the rest was easy - war against everyone. I was to lazy to try for a higher score.

My original goal had been to conquer the world early but this failed miserably. Somewhat frustratingly, in my next game I conquered the world in 1530 (almost 300 years earlier than I had ever done before), destroying 13 (!) civs in the progress.
