Gotm 43 Spoiler

I just finished my OCC last night. Launched in 1710, landed 1725.

You had my hopes up, asking about the closing date...

In 1750 the turns change from 5 years to 2 - I just missed that point due to the same issue you list, the Power Ranking change that threw off the research pace. I was holding at Inadequate (last) and the Egyptians dropped below me for a few turns. Then when they regained it I got messed up again. I did a bit too much buying of NONEs in the mid-game, too. Oh well, there's always #44...

My tusks are getting short from all the grinding of teeth...

I submitted a few hours ago to Duke. My log is attached.

Wow, even earlier than ElephantU's which I found hard to believe. You guys are amazing.

I decided to conquer the world, when I found out that I have no time to play for spaceship. I have destroyed 11 civs, but I have still five oponents. I know that restarts are on, but I have thought there is only some count of restarts.

Can anybody say me why? I am 900 AD, lot of cities everywhere.

I have played till late 1600s and have just started the space race. I have stayed peaceful throughout and only engaged in defense. I will post a detailed log later, but here are a few snap shots:

Thank you Tim, for the log. I read it in detail. Here are a few observations:

I obviously was weak in the diplomatic area. I have learned quite a bit recently from ElephantU and you. I am putting it to good use in GOTM44. In that game Marco was the first wonder I built; something I have never done before. I am trying my best milking my allies and I amazed at how lucrative it is. I have more money than I can spend.

You managed to ally with everyone in this game. My guess is that you did it early enough that they have not had enemies yet. I am finding it next to impossible not to be at nominal war with one side of a conflict.

Is there any way to tell yours or a rival's power rating without meeting them face to face and counting the arrows/guns/missiles on the left?

When you meet a rival face to face there are techs listed on the right. Any significance to this? Does it indicate who is ahead in the tech race?

I was amazed at how many wonders were left at the end of your game. Also reading your log, wonder building was rarely ever a race for you. Maybe, it is my version of the game (single player on Mac) but my AI rivals are quick to build wonders. If I do not snatch Colossus quickly, it will be gone. Often it is a race with someone else to get it done more quickly. In GOTM44 I just won a race over the Spanish to build Copernicus. Having 200s and 300s wonders left at the end of a space race game is a rarity.

Diplomacy is one area where OCC has a distinct advantage. By being smaller than the other civs, they will be friendly, and give you tons of gold. I purposely did not attempt to grow the city past size 3 until I built Marco, so that I would be the smallest civ and could get alliances and most importantly cash gifts to make up for the lack of shields in the city. The reduced tech rate from not growing is usually offset by what you can get in exchanges. Marco is now my first priority in any OCC game because it allows meeting the AIs before (1) I grow too large (2) they meet each other and start silly wars and (3) I end up researching the things they have researched.

I am not sure why the Ai's were so inept at building wonders. I wonder (no pun intended) if it might be due to the fact that I was siphoning all their cash. In a normal game, I would have needed to put Colossus up much sooner - this is what I was referring to when I said being at King level allowed me to choose the order of my wonders: Marco to take advantage of AI cash and research, then KRC to solve shield issues for building the other wonders, followed by Copes to double science, Shakes to allow unfettered WLTCD Growth and finally Colossus to increase trade (mostly science) by about 40%. Based on reading some of Samson's games, I now will target Copernicus before Colossus if I have a choice, but at Deity there is no way Colossus goes unbuilt until almost 1000 AD.

I don't know how to tell the power rating of AIs other than to meet with them and look at the diplo screen. Since I generally talk to all of them every turn in an OCC game, this is not much of an annoyance to me.

I think the list of techs on the right of the diplo screen is the last n they have learned. I don't really know how to use it to my advantage - most of the time I ignore it.

Unofficial late game - I played for conquest (as usual). In 1000ad, I had 7 cities, 2 settlers, 1-2 boats, and NO other units. Built LH and sent out first 2 flotillas about 700bc. This delayed MPE until 250bc - probably a mistake, since my flotillas had no clear targets, and one planted an outpost city in a relatively useless spot. MPE revealed the 4 other civs have 18 cities, and that the Romans will probably be hardest to defeat quickly.

It's true - the civ's go down in 340ad (Mongols and English), 400ad (Egypt) and 440ad (Romans). Unfortunately, they all re-spawned in different locations. After all the respawns in gotm47, and my rant in Andu's respawn poll, I didn't feel like chasing them down. It could easily have gone on another 300 years, I guess.
