No huts? NOOO!!! :) I usually depend on those for early units and settlers.
this will be verrryyy interesting, especially since i havent played civ 1 in a while. Restarts are annoying though, they always like appear in some swamp or glacier or something.

Nice starting with two settlers (i always love it when that happens)

What -- "simple" combat ... looks like something no one has bothered to figure out...

Hmmm methinks we'll see this again.

(And no I've never played this wrinkle before either.)

"Simple" combat is the combat version from Civ1 and Civnet.
Actually, Sid "threw in" simplified combat in Civ2 for the people who liked it in Civ1 and wanted to play it in Civ2 without the firepower and hit points. IIRC, there is a note in the Civ2 manual (good god! I have not looked at that since last Millineum!) mentioning that.

The Civ2 system is much more realilistic. It eliminates the really impossible odds and gives you a chance to use tactics instead of pure luck.

Actually my brand new Battlecruiser had beaten by Destroyer. This is not really realistic. I probably quit the game.
