Not much production on the map huh... I wonder what the AI capitals will be like. Clearly ours isn't that great!
Given that we are Aggressive, I'm thinking that perhaps a warrior rush could work on this one. We shall see how things pan out.
4000 BC -> 2000 BC
I'm not sure settling in place will give the city fresh water, and I see no other reason to not move 1S and settle. Annoyingly, the wolf can't move onto resource tiles or tiles where the settler is. I end up settling 1S next to the river. The floodplain tundra is a nice touch
First techs are Mining->BW, since we have quite a bit of food I'd like to be able to whip out warriors for an army of them! I declare on Saladin as soon as my starting warrior reaches his city. It's pretty much a mistake, since he has 2 warriors defending - not what I was expecting. Oh well. I take peace eventually and forget about the warrior rush.
Meanwhile the capital has gone off on a rather different path, I actually built barracks -> warrior -> worker, so worker was quite delayed despite being Expansive. I'm planning a pretty aggressive game, (presumably) safe in the knowledge that the AI won't have metal. If I can find horses I'll aim to dominate the world with Keshiks, otherwise I guess I can wait till Cats+Elephants.
So far I've hardly seen any wild animals. I think perhaps the AI has killed them off already.
City #2 is founded claiming clams and later elephants close to Saladin's capital. My scouting warrior finds horses and deer to the north, which will be priority for city #3. There is also some nice fertile land to the south that I'd like to put a nice commerce city down in. Oh wow! There's also horses down there. Time to redirect the settler. Asoka has a settler heading that way though, so I declare hoping he'll turn it around... Unfortunately, the ploy doesn't work. I'll just have to take the city. The settler is turned around again, and finally in 2040 BC city #3 is founded to the north claiming horses.
2000 BC -> 500 BC
Asoka has by the far the best land I can see. Which I will gladly take from him. I steal a worker from Saladin as well, so he is pretty stunted at the moment. With a force of 3 Keshiks I begin the attack on Asoka's nearest city. The plan is to keep most of his cities and cottage them to keep the economy afloat. I take peace with Asoka after capturing two cities (one with Stonehenge) and razing a 3rd.
Saladin is next on the list. He is eliminated in 700 BC. I then turn around for Asoka, who is dead in 500 BC. Hatshepsut will be next, so I send some Keshiks to scout her out.
500 BC -> 1 AD
I declare on Hatshepsut in 350 BC. I'm keeping more of her cities than I probably need, but my thinking is that I'm teching toward currency and they can at least build Wealth. Hattie is dead in 250 BC. Next on the list is Cyrus, I declare in 150 BC, and he is dead in 25 BC. Only Mansa Musa and Huayna Capac remain. Musa has some powerful archers which I'm a little wary of... but I think I'll go after him all the same. Just on 1 AD I learn calendar at a snail's pace. I'm tempted to simply stop teching now...
State of my empire at 1 AD is:
12 cities (3 settled, the rest captured including Persian, Egyptian, Indian and Arabian capitals)
13 Workers (again, pretty much all captured)
Can manage about 30 sustainable /turn @20% slider.
Key techs: Alphabet, Calendar, Monarchy, HBR, IronWorking, Currency... nothing more advanced than that.
Similar game to adrianj - in that I am (going to be) using keshiks to conquer the world. Except I didn't start attacking until 300BC. Asoka will be first.
Really enjoying the map. Perhaps IceAge is normally an Earth like map, but I didn't remember that, so pleasantly surprised as I explored and discovered the continents and civs.
Had fun exploring with my wolf. It survived a 99.6% panther attack on turn2. (8 coinflips in a row in my favor - is that a free win at the noble level?) Lost him to another wolf in 1920 BC a very sad year But I choose to believe he just followed the Call of the Wild and went feral. Too bad it couldn't be promoted (6 exp). [animals in FFH get promotions]
First warrior also survived attacks from a bear and a wolf. Also didn't see as many animals as expected. But perhaps AI would have been really hampered if animals were more of a nuisance.
Also settled 1S. Explored S first and rushed my first settler to the Horse, Rice Elephants location, founded in 2760 BC. Third city wasn't founded until 475BC on coast as future GPF and for happiness resources, with silver, fur, fish, clams.
Got distracted building wonders instead of rushing.
Stonehenge 1440 BC
Oracle 1040 BC (Civil Service)
Pyramids 700BC
Great Library 125BC (with Great Engineer from the Pyramids)
Founded Christianity (theology) with first Great Person (moses iirc). Missed out on Judaism and Confucianism by 4 turns each. But I don't think I'm going for culture.
I think it will be conquest and I just wasted time building infrastructure/techs for a longer game.
But again, I'm having fun. Higher levels are more work, noble is easy (for me now).
Explored south, lots of nice land down there, and HORSES! City 2 is settled 1N. City 3 NE next to the Silver/Clams/Crabs. City 4 E of horses.
Pyramids built in capital, Police State was very useful. This is the first game I have ever played where I did not prioritise CoL or CS. They just were not required for this game.
Just spammed Keshiks.
DoW Asoka in 1080BC, dead 550BC. Hatty is next.....
Similar plan to the above.
I settled 1S. Tech AH while building worker. Then wheel + archery + HBR.
Settled 2nd city next to horse by Asoka's border. He has best land I can see. Building chariots while waitning for HBR. Built 1 settler and settled a rewal crap spot with wheat and elephants, thought I'd get clam but didn't. Saladin took that.
Attack Asoka with 5 chariots + 2 keshik. Against 3 archers in 40% culture Dehli. Lost 4 chars, 1 withdraws. Keshiks kill 2. Next turn take Dehli. From there is all downhill, as more and more keshiks are built. I then capture all Asoka's cities (about 5 more) with keshiks.
Directly onward to Hatty and eliminate her. Confu founded in her capitol as I get CS-sling from Oracle (no prob when at noble level and math not needed). Then Daladin is eliminated. I have been keeping all cities. Capture gold keeps my econ afloat until whipping of courthouses makes it sustainable at about 30% research. Next is Saldin... about 4 turns to capture all his cities. Cyrus and Mansa are Confu, and I adopt it just as Pyramids are built and I go to Repr to get to currency faster. Will go to Police state later, I'm figuring. I will use Mansa for what trades I can while going onward to dom. Besides, those skirmishers don't look like fun... I should probably get catapults before taking him on.
At 1AD I have found Inca. If there are 7 AI there is one still left to meet. Inca looks pretty big with lots of good land to expand into, so he'll be next, even though its a long way to move the keshiks. If I go for conquest its better to get the far away ones first anyhow.
There is not any problem with production as long as slavery is available, and some chopping of course. Seems to be adequate food.
I've started building palace in Dehli because it has plenty of green for Bur-bonused cottages, which my present capitol is kind of short on.
1AD: 3AI dead, 17 cities (approx), sustanable at 30% research. NOt really challenging to stomp on AI at this point. Inca is still buiilding quechas after all.
I don't know how fast I can do this... depends on how fast I can build keshiks in captured Inca cities, probably. If space race was an option, I'd probably just switch to that since the challenge of this game is already over, and military victory takes so much more real time. But it isn't. So maybe UN self-vote diplo victory if it gets too stale.
I guess if the point is to develop our whipping skills, I can see the absence of hills. But so far, all it does for me is ensure the AI cities are all on flat terrain, making archers sitting ducks for keshiks. No metals mean no worries about spears. Too simple, really. Nobody even has Monarchy yet, so I suspect I won't ever have to face longbows if I do this right. If I'm too slow for that, catapults will surely finish it. That's why get the far civ(s) first... cats are slow.
I lost my wolf to barb wolf. Other than that, they are a non-factor.
Goal: Fastest Cultural (I've been on a conquest kick for too long... )
I settled 1S on T0 just like everyone else. My tech path was Animal Husbandry -> Mining -> Masonry (for the stone) -> BW. My capital built worker -> warrior -> settler (south to claim Horse, Rice and Ivory) -> warrior -> worker -> warrior -> settler (NE to claim Fish, Crab, Fur and Silver). I also built Stonehenge (1720 BC) and the Oracle (1280 BC -> CS sling).
Once I had three cities, I started my conquest with chariots. I attacked Asoka in 875 BC, which is very late, but I was focused on wonders initially. I lost 7 chariots to 4 archers in Delhi (city was surrounded by rivers on all sides...). I won the next 3 battles, but the last archer and a new recruit kept me from taking the city on the next turn. And I thought 10 chariots against 4 archers was playing it safe!
At this point, I remembered about our unique unit... a little late, no? So I switched research to HBR and I was finally able to eliminate Asoka (500 BC) and Saladin (125 BC).
At 1AD, I have 8 cities (5 captured + 3 razed), 44 pops, 1 settler, 4 religious holy cities (2 founded and 2 captured), 7 granaries, 3 temples, 1 academy and a whole lot of missionaries and temples to build with very few hammers (other than chops and the whip). I know Literature, Drama, Philosophy, Paper and Music (2 turns). I'm waiting to get Calendar in trade to start building some plantations because I don't want Stonehenge to obsolete just yet.

Hadn't played vanilla in a while - the lack of stables (or Gers) make the Keshilks not quite so fantastic, but still good enough.
Settled 1S, animal husbandry-> mining -> masonry just as the previous poster. Spotted the horse down south - settled once near the horse and another along the river by the sea. Then researched horseback riding, which did take some 23 turns - but finished the same turn as my road from my capital was finished, so great timing. Got 6 keshliks (with more following) and bashed Asoka pretty early on, including the Buddhist holy city, always nice to get at least one holy city. Then I destroyed they guy on my left - can't remember his name, he was green.
Then my economy hit a brick wall and I wasn't even sure I could take any more cities, so I didn't declare on the Egyptians just yet, but on the flip side I wasn't sure if I waited too long, I might be up against longbows which would be trickier. Research was at 10% for about 40 turns which set me back a bit. Built a load of early wonders though, which was nice, including stonehenge. That gave me a great prophet which I sent off to build a shrine in my holy city, which helped a lot with the great economy rebuild.
Played through until about 1200AD now and I will reveal one thing - my wolf is still alive!
Really enjoying the map. Perhaps IceAge is normally an Earth like map, but I didn't remember that, so pleasantly surprised as I explored and discovered the continents and civs.
I am enjoying it too. But I think it is not necessarily an Ice Age mapscript (those aren't Earth-like, btw). I am assuming it is a custom map which, after a lot of work from Cactus Pete, does a good job of portraying the Earth's northern hemisphere at the Ice Age, with some of the civs at their actual historic placement. I found especially amusing the Nile river and the Siberia-Alaska land bridge.
Those were my plans, too. But after reading your spoiler, my hopes have vanished, I am lagging behind your progress by a large margin. Good game so far!

Moved the Warrior 1 SW, and the Wolf 1N + 1E. Settled 1S on Turn 0 like everyone else.

City 2/Beshbalik founded T42/2320 BC, 1SE + 5S of Capitol, on riverside plains tile between Horse & Ivory/Elephant. Initial builds = Barracks/Worker/*Keshiks.
City 3/Turfan founded T61/1560 BC, 4NE + 1E of Capitol, on coastal Ice tile near Crab, Fish, Fur & Silver. Initial Builds = Work Boat/Barracks. I wanted to build this city downstream and to the east of Beshbalik, but Asoka had just built a city near where I wanted to, so time for the Keshiks to go to work.
Military Campaigns
Asoka - DOW = T74/1040 BC; Dead = T86/725 BC
T75/1000 BC - Raze Madras
T80/875 BC - Capture Bombay
T85/750 BC - Capture Delhi (Buddhist Holy City) I convert to Buddhism.
T86/725 BC = Raze Bangalore
Saladin - DOW = T91/600 BC; Dead = T101/350 BC
T91/350 BC - Raze Baghdad (1 Keshik kills the 1 Warrior defending too easy!)
Plan of Action Going Forward
Following my usual strategic planning, I asked my Magic 8-Ball"What I should do next?" It replied with "Concentrate and ask again." Thanks a million, old buddy, old pal!
I'm first in Soldiers, Population and Land Area. For Domination Victory, I'm closing in on the population limit (32.54% with 48% needed), but still have a long way to go on Land Area (8.94% with 64% needed).
Only four rivals left for Conquest Victory. I just met HC of the Inca on the 1 AD turn. He is the dirty rotten bum who beat me to The Oracle. He also has Stonehenge, The Great Lighthouse & the Hindu Shrine. With all those Wonders, he has a pretty fair lead in going for a Cultural Victory, with two cities over 800 . From the diplomacy screen, it looks like HC has 5 cities.
At 1 AD, I am 4 turns away from completing The Pyramids in Karakorum. If I get The Pyramids, I'll try for The Hanging Gardens as well, and hopefully generate some GE's in my soon to be Bureaucratic Capitol. And if I get The Pyramids, I'll switch to the Police State Civic right away.
Hattie has 5 cities and no State Religion. I have a Buddhist Missionary 1 turn away from her Capitol, so perhaps I can get her to convert and become an ally in future wars. She has Horses near Thebes, so should be able to build War Chariots, although I haven't seen any yet.
Cyrus & Mansa both have 4 cities and are both Confucian (Mansa founded Confucianism). Would they try and protect each other? Would it matter? All my Keshiks and Cats are near Cyrus' territory. As tempting as it is to break things off and go after HC, he's on the other side of the world, so I'll look to take out Cyrus next. If he has Immortals, they could be a problem for the Cats, but I haven't used Cats on any of the cities I've captured so far. And if Mansa objects too much, he'll have to go also. His Skirmishers could be a little harder to take out. So I guess the plan is to go for a Conquest or Domination Victory. Better get a move on before people start getting Feudalism & Longbowmen.
"Conquest or Domination, that's the way to go, isn't it, magic 8-Ball?"
"Reply hazy, try again."
"Look Magic 8-Ball, I just want to know if this is a good plan or not?"
"Cannot predict now."
"Magic 8-Ball, we've been friends a long time. I just want to know if my plan will work?"
I guess I should be specific. By diplomatic victories, I mean "true" diplomatic victories where I get the votes from other civs, not wholly from my population.
Missed CS sling by 1 TURN, and should have had it probably 3 or 4 turns earlier as I forgot to switch build to Oracle!
Then I went to bath my son mid turn and moved a Keshik out of my main production city leaving it only defended by a single warrior when there was an Indian chariot within range. All I had left to claim was his capital. He took the city and I rage quit.
I'm not done with this one just yet and as such will hold more comments and discussion for later. At this point however I'd just like to go on the record and say; Good freakin' GRIEF!
In the words of the immortal Forest Gump, "That's all I got ta say about that."

First, let me say it has been a LONG time since I competed in a game... upon logging in the site said my last visit was in December 2008. Upon hearing about Civ V some months ago I started playing again in Civ IV (never even bought BTS) and tried some GOTM's. So now I decided it is time to let you all know I will probably be able to upload a game.
Just as (most of) the rest of you settled my first city 1 south as it looked like the best spot. Decided on a worker first to get resources (stone) connected. Tech plan was Mining-Masonry-AH-BW. Then to HBR and then decide what was needed for better military.
Further it was planned to build some cities to boost production and start on keshiks for conquest once horses were found. I thought that was what most would decide and as I would like to compare my play to others I needed to to the same.
So far from reading other posts I am relieved to see I am not (far) behind. Although I seem to be easy on the whip compared to most: definately something I should improve!
On the second turn my wolf encountered probably the same panther as mentioned earlier: the result was also the same with the panther being defeated without even a scratch on the wolf! On turn 12 however my wolf already was killed by a bear. On turn 25 my initial warrior who went out exploring was killed by a bear, so exploring was a bit slow.
On turn 38 I settled Karakorum on the jungle with the horses and the ivory, hoping to get religion from Asoka soon as it was on his borders. That didn't spread quickly though.
On turn 53 Turfan founded on the coast with rice and fish. The clams site was already taken by Egypt if I recall correctly. After this all new cities were conquered, by 1 AD I have 8.
By turn 60 I noticed that I still needed archery... so I had to wait a bit longer for my keshiks. On turn 80 my first war starts when I attack Saladin with 3 keshiks, a chariot and a spare warrior that just stumbles along with everything. The next turn finally buddhism spreads. At turn 89 Arabia is destroyed, my army now 8 keshiks strong.
By turn 94 I discover construction to be able to build elephants and catapults and declare on India (I expected I needed elephants and catapults with them). The Indians had already 5 cities of which one on the island before the coast. Therefore it took me until after 1 AD to end this war.
Next will be the Eqyptians and I plan to work my way around the globe, leaving HC as last target as he is too difficult to reach now and others can be taken out more efficiently.
Havn't played Civ in a long time, so there was kind of a learning curve and I forgot about the CS sling and how good Slavery was. I Put my Settler on the stone but not sure that was a good idea. At 1 AD I have 4 cities and just finally linked up with the horse. Took me forever to find . I think things are going well, but I will see.
