Quechuas seem to be a double edged weapon, don't they? :D
Almost as many loses as victories were submited!

I'd love to hear your opinion about the perceived difficulty of this game.

Also, what do you think of this game's announcement picture? Doesn't it feel like a good place to settle? It was taken during the honeymoon trip of the map-maker.

Aaargh....I would have had fastest space ship if I didn't fool around with Monty toward the end..instead losing it to Cyrus in 1785 by a coupla turns.

I thought it was harder simply as the starting position was not great. Looks like some folks moved quite far away to settle, but I rarely move more than 2 tiles. Also, I wished I scouted and settled the little island just NE much sooner. Made a decent GP farm.

Very nice picture. I'm sure yall had a lovely trip. Congrats if the nuptials were recent.

That comment is map-dependent. Of course, XOTMs seem to place the AI capitals far from our starting location in Huayna games, a situation that is quite different from early Hall of Fame games before Huayna became a banned Leader in those competitions due to people acquiring multiple AI capitals close to their own capital.

That said, I think that it is fair to get Huayna games with some of the AIs being far but still reachable without boats... it prevents a successful rush from totally dominating the scoreboard but still allows for some fun with those units... so, great balance overall for this game, in my opinion!

It was particularly nice not to have given Strategic Resources to Isabella except for a poorly-placed Iron, although I was too busy attacking the first AI that I found (Julius) to even notice.

Congrats to all of those of you who submitted Losses! Your daring, bravery, courage, and determination to play on to defeat is commendable!

Congrats to all of the winners. It's good to see that CP is back and kicking all of our butts again.

Special recognition goes to Dhoomstriker for being the only one to win from the Challenger save (plus he finally let me have a cow ;)).

Yep congrats to all the winners. Don't think I'm quite in jesusin class for the cultural victories quite yet though.

As for the game difficulty moving inland for more food/flood plains etc would have made it a lot easier as the lack of food in the starting position slowed the start a bit.

Just been and had a look at the first picture. Looks like a nice relaxing place. Unless your climbing those mountains etc. Looks like it could be somewhere in Central America to me at an educated guess???

"I'd love to hear your opinion about the perceived difficulty of this game." The game was difficult for me (very time consuming) because the map was spread out, commerce was hard to come by, and Astronomy had to be researched to conquer. However, that was evident (perceived) early on.

"Also, what do you think of this game's announcement picture? Doesn't it feel like a good place to settle? It was taken during the honeymoon trip of the map-maker." Didn't look like a good place to me. I've farmed on hillsides, and it ain't easy.

Come on! It's not so hard.

From Cactus Pete you have the hint of farmed hillsides...
Those mountains in the picture are volcanoes...
From the game it appears into you have the hint of quechuas...
From my being there you know the food is great...

Here's where everyone settled

The Small Print:
The numbers by each player's name indicate the turn settled on (starting turn is 0). Players are colour coded by game class (challenger=red, adventurer=blue). Symbols indicate victory condition, if there's no symbol then the player either retired or was defeated. The yellow border indicates the land that was visible at the start of the game.

Congratulations to the winners!
Couple of years ago, it was possible to peruse the games of - some?! ; THE?! - winners. Is it no more the case?

Yes, you can still download them. Go to the results page (linked in the first post of this thread). The games are downloadable in the Date column of the results.

Some things rarely change.

Merry Christmas to you! :D

In addition to the final saved games, be sure to check out the Replay tool, which can give you a high-level play-by-play breakdown of two players' games at once.

If you submit a game, it is a great way for you to directly compare your game against someone else's--which is another great reason to submit every Game of the Month game that you play, even your Losses and Retirements.

I settled in place.

When I tried to submit my incomplete game on 1/1, the page didn't load (blank screen after clicking on submit results open in new tab). This wasn't too upsetting since I hadn't finished the game; but would have been a real bummer if I had finished and it had happened at the deadline (like many of my submissions are).

Spoiler :
This should go in one of the spoiler threads instead of here, but "oh well". "Rush" failed to capture Rome, did take 2 cities. At 140 AD, have 5 cities and am 8th in most categories, 9th in soldiers.
