CharlieChuck: Looks like you played ics pretty well - that's not your usual style? I couldn't tell at first glance when you built your Wonders, but it appears you had Marco in 1400BC, which is pretty good. I guess your main problem was casualties.

I've had a few goes at an ICS style now, I mostly tried it to speed up the game time. The starting position in this game was good with the river and good shield resources, this helped getting marco's so early. The only problem was the lack of good sites for coastal towns. This delayed my attack, and meant I was attacking with not enough troops a lot of the time. I ended up finishing about 1000AD, after a lot of moving ships from the wrong place late on.

I built a lot of wonders at the end, but also Great wall 100bc (to stop other civ's building it) and colossus 1000bc.

A BC victory would be impressive in this game, I think it could only be done sending out chariots to the furthest cities, not crusaders.

CC: You're right about the coastal towns; this was also a problem for me when creating a long ship chain, east/north of Spain, then to France. That was partly bad luck. The terrain was better elsewhere (south) but sometimes you have to decide your route before seeing much of the map. I wasn't sure I could get to France other ways (eg via China). I had similar uncertainty about the Zulu's, and eventually approached them from several directions, which was not very efficient.

I probably could have conquered around 200AD without much change in my plan, but I invested in my ship chain + vans instead of ele/crusaders. One might finish BC by lucky-guessing the best sea routes to France and Zulu, and/or by sending out explorers to pop huts (hoping, for example, for an advanced tribe near Zulu, to rush-build attackers).

Late in my game, the Zulu's built a couple of cities far to the west, which weren't on the map I'd gotten from them earlier. Probably the result of huts. That kind of thing would make a BC finish really tough.
