Where did you settle?
Any problems so far?

Really sorry about the delay, I am on holiday in NZ and completely forgot

Where did you settle?
Any problems so far?

I could not think of anything clearly better than SIP, so that is what I did.

It is pretty much impossible to have any real problems on Prince. The level forgives everything.

Having said that, is it just me, or does the land suck?? I cant quite put my finger on it, but I have the felling that things are going very slowly. I rexed decentenly and have about 10 cites at 0AD (I forget the exact numbers now, and am doing this from memory), but on this type of rex, I would usually be around starting to research education now, but instead it looks like it is 800 years away....

Part of it is obviously the lack of a trading partner, and perhaps another part is that, because I did not have a trading partner, and felt the need to get more worker techs than usual, and that I was industrious, I decided to not Oracle forges, instead of something like CS.

I think however that the bigger issue is the land. I dont think it is really all that bad, but it feels slow. It seems to me that I am travelling further than normal to get what are only above average city cites, and that I am leaving gaps big enough that I am actually thinking about filler cities with zero resources! Also, even the above avreage cites I am finding are not really good... Double fish in the NW for example, but with no way other than a grass cow to get any real production. Silver city which has no way of getting any really decent food. And more beavers than I know what to do with (no trading partners of course), all of which are near mediocre land at best.

To date, I have met only one civ, and I assume he is the only civ on our continent. As such, I have not research Alpha yet, so I cant really tell how the AI are doing. He does not have it yet either, but that is not much of a surprize. Based on wonder dates, the AI feel a tiny bit slow, however the religions are going are regular, if not a bit early, times, so I am not sure.

Right now, the plan is to continue research with my current empire (It goes from the west coast to just before the first elephant cluster. I got beaten to that elephant cite, and it will be my first war target.) The AI is still defending with only archers, so I am pretty sure I can get to Musketeers before anything dangerouse to them (i.e. crossbows) appears. I think I will sweep the continant ala Dartagnon, and then likely head off to space.

The beginning and cities:
#1- Paris 1N (3960 BC) ==> Worker / Warrior / Warrior / Warrior / Settler
#2- Orleans W (2400 BC) – 1 fish, 1 cow, 1 copper
#3- Lyons NW (1760 BC) – 1 fish, 1 rice
#4- Rheims E (1480 BC) – 1 sheep, 1 copper (my GP Farm)
#5- Tours NE (1280 BC)- 1 rice, 1 copper
#6- Marseilles NE (500 BC)- 1 cow, 1 rice
#7- Chartres SE (300 BC)- 1 fish, 2 fur, 1 silver
#8- Avignon Island N (225 BC)- 1 fish, 1 copper

Technologies, Wonders and Great Persons:
- AH / Min / BW / Pott / Writ / Fish / Sail / Mas / Math / Construction
- No Techs traded yet
- The Great LightHouse (725 BC)
- 1 Great Scientist: Academy in Rheims (300 BC)

The game:
- Meetings: only Montezuma Aztec (3640 BC)
- Preparing my Army to attack Montezuma: 6 cats and 2 Axes
- Lost one city to one Warrior Barb against one Warrior in a city …
- I think it will take so much time until I dominate this continent. Monty is far away... I would like to win by Domination, but this situation will complicate me :(. So I'm confused which path I'll follow ???

1 AD:
- 7 cities (all founded) - Pop 22
- 55 bpt at 100% / 18 bpt breakeven at 30%

I headed northwest and found a nice capital site with stone in the BFC. I built a few wonders including the Mids and the GLH. I met the Aztecs and have been fighting a long war using swords and cats.

I played like a friggin' idiot. Man, I keep ragequitting (but still saving) with all the cumulating mistakes I do.

Forests into vanishing processes like wealth.
I forgot I was building Chichen Pitza and oops built it! Like 500 fail gold lost for no good reason.
Gifted my caravel in a UI mistake...
Do all sorts of idiocies.

Man I hate Vanilla. My game is certainly won at 120%, but given I am lost at vanilla compared to BTS, I do a lot of stupidities. I wonder if I'll ever get a 1800ish space game. Nah, not going for Dom because I played too badly...I played worse than a warlord player. Seriously, what was I thinking building SH...lol.

Only good things were archer baiting with a worker and oracling CS.

How do Cactus Pete still bear this CIV version? It'll take me time to readapt my play in that bizarre environment.

Chariot without 100% against axes but 20% retreat odd. U're joking, right?
HA's without 20% retreat odd...mkay!
No trebs!!!!!

The game seems fitted at that time for a cavalry rush all the time.
I need to practice for sure.

I moved the settler NW,NE of the starting position. By 1 AD, I've settled six cities, captured one barb city, and I've built the GLH. All's quiet with Monty, but I'll be wanting the continent for myself, soon.

Settled on the river between the 2 cows.

450bc Monty is gone, nice capital :)

9 cities at 1AD (3 former Aztec), I feel very much alone and the economy sucks.

I finally found some time to play this game past 1AD. Not sure what kind of a VC I am heading for but wanted to do an old trick I used to do in vanilla civ4. I wanted to use my first GP to bulb CS. Why? Just because it is different and can be done. And yes it may delay my academy but the land around the capital tell me it is not going to be a great loss for a while. I could be wrong but oh well :p.

So with that plan in mind, I sent the warrior to check the lake to see if there is any reason to settle in place. You know, those fresh water fish we sometimes find :). He found no reason and the settler moved 2N. Settled on T1 and built a worker while learning AH. After that I can not remember what I did since this game was played while half a sleep. So I consulted the Civ Oracle, aka the Autolog :D

So here is the tech order up to 100 AD.

Spoiler :

Well not much. Did not want to use the whip to beat AI at this low level. So just one switch so far. I may have to change my whip plans since I am not really playing against low level AI at GOTM but instead very good human players.

Turn 93/460 (550 BC)
Civics Change: Napoleon(France) from 'Barbarism' to 'Bureaucracy'
Civics Change: Napoleon(France) from 'Tribalism' to 'Caste System'

Missed opportunity: Well I did not read this map well and did not prioritize the sailing to or fishing for that matter to build the GLH since there were islands in accessible areas. This is exactly what happen when you sleep civ.

Hopes: just to find time to finish the game.

As always your comments are very entertaining. Your rant has been on the tip of my tongue, but I never got around to posting it. Let me pile on!

War weariness if BRUTAL!!! No civ switch with GA--AARRGHHH! Cats rule?? Really?? Yes!!!

Oh, and yeah, I built SH too. Hell, it was only two turns in the Paris! Since there was crap for calender resources, why not!

Oops, you made me remember to finish this one. (Sheesh, I used up all my time with that code-diving) I got caught with that Toku game (which I already lost to Neil-bastard).

*Whiiiiiiiiiiiiine*

Spoiler :
is my second name.

I hope they are not entertaining at my expense.

I settled 2N2W on the desert. I was pleasantly surprised to find Copper. Wanted to get away from the tundra, find green tiles and river tiles. I think all the settle sites were mediocre.

I went for the SH very late since it was two turns. I missed a late Oracle by a few turns at 800 BC. Got TGL and Pyramids.

8 Cities
1 Settler in place
32 Population
105 :science:pt
Teched MC, Math, 4T from Currency.
No religion.

I stole three workers from my sweetheart to the east. I decided early on we were alone and neither of has had a religion to share. No trades, so pseudo-isolation/worker steal.

This game is crawling!
