What way to peace did you follow?
What did all the leaders have in common?
Spoiler :
They all have different traits in BtS.
Spoiler :
edit, to clarify, their traits in Vanilla are different from their traits in BtS
Old School
Spoiler :
Did you notice anything else?

Well can't say I noticed anything different about the leaders. Did notice the land was a bit bad though.. :)

Ended up with a domination victory early 1800's. I was very late starting against Cathy with cavalry. Then onto Qin (who had rifles) and JC (also rifles). Viccie (also rifles). Where Nap and Roo didn't. Probably went about this the wrong way but then again might have faced better units if I had taken the weaker civs first.

So had a long slog through all lands. Wiped out Cathie/Qin/JC/Viccie. Settled all lands I could in the ice. The turn after I took Paris I tripped the domination limit. Still suffered as I normally do in vanilla with war weariness. Big help getting the Pyramids from JC for Police State but even at the end I still seemed to have unhappy citizens.

Thanks for the game. :)

As told in first spoiler, i had a terrible start. So I thought about what to do with this and decided I will do aspire for victory condition unlikely for this map: conquest, and as I am late anyway, i try to to go really late and look for a white cow.

I lost Liberalism race to mp3 (JC) and only at the 1600s I was equal in science and started to go for the world. ;-)

I made Lei Lei a bit smaller, than went after Elena, as she was easiest to reach, then mp3, as he was strongest in military. After that eliminated Ibrahim and then Luis.
At the very end I finished Lei Lei up to one city in the northern ice and waited for the base score to climb.

Also I tried environtalism for the first time. Almost lost population then, because I forgot first about the mills and workshops providing less food.

I had very low food the whole time in my home area.

Finished in 2046 with a base score over 7000.

Thanks for a special game!

I mucked it up early and finished with a late 1890's domination. Logistically I was a wreck most of the game. I finished! :)

Wow, that was a tough Monarch game :whew:!

My first war was against Peeka in 275 BC. We made peace in 335 AD, when she had one ice city and another on island. She gave me Med / Poly / Sail / Alpha and Hunting. After that I went Cavalries to dominate other lands. But techs and trading were so bad. Second war was against Elena around 1700 AD (we made peace for a couple techs and one city – now her empire is just one city). Economy crashed sometimes and I had to stop everything I was doing to recover it. I initiated another war against Ibrahan with Cavalries (he had Rifles). Took 5 cities and made peace to avoid strike…

But my time is over and I can’t finish it. So, I submit my retired game:
56 cities / 40% land / score: 31,292 / date: 1850 AD

Some considerations:
- it was very hard to deal with that great band of frozen area. I had to position and maintain several units (16 to be exact) there to avoid Barbs, and this fact disturbed the economy the entire game
- my great mistake was to settle several cities in the ice area (north and south after taking the Elena’s land) soon when I started the war around 1700 AD. I thought that I could manage war, cities and economy at the same time, but I failed at this topic . Now I‘ve learnt the price to maintain a completely useless city. This map became a great challenge …
- I guess this kind of difficult was general. In the submission list there was only fifteen games, and this number is low, considering the level and the version (GOTM is always very disputed). Also, two players reported domination around 1800 AD (hey, my game isn't so bad after all :D!)
- I would win this game (very, very late of course ), but not in the easy way. Certainly I’d had to recover the economy and choose another units (or prepare a bunch of Cannons), because MP3 and Lei Lei were very strong :wow: (they already have Infantries). Also it started the space race…
- Did someone try the peaceful Diplo challenge? All my relations were terrible through all the game
- I still don’t know what the leaders have in common ???

Deckhand, thanks for another game! This was heavy for this level :goodjob:!

1700 Domination

Indeed, this was a tough Monarch game, despite us having Inca.

I resisted the urge to Quecha rush Peeka, opting to rex to the many half-decent sites. Land really sucked! Oracle CS & GLH paid off nicely, Colossus was no doubt the killer wonder on this map and it totally saved my economy. I had to kill everyone using galleys, as I could not afford to obsolete Colossus. I would have loved mids, but it wasn't to be. War weariness meant I had to mainly focus on 1 enemy at a time, and to accept peace a few times when I didn't really want to.

Took Peeka out with mainly Cats & Maces, but I had a few Knights before I finished that war. Turned around immediately and started on Washington, with Cavalry, had to accept peace when he was left only with Boston as I had run out of units. Why does he defend his cap with 3 units, and leave 12 in his second city ? Reinforcements arrived after Nappy died.

A very rough tile count indicated I was short on the 2 continents, so I start a war against Vicky, and it was like a knife through butter. Took all but 2 of her cities with my initial force of 8 Cavs  After that it was a mass settle and hope. Spent 10 minutes changing the tile & specialist assignment of every city (about 60-70 cities iirc) so I was cash positive, but tripped domination the very next turn so it was a huge waste of time.

Didn't notice that they had different traits to BtS, but I don't play Vanilla very often. All I knew was that Cathy & Nappy had to die!

Won't be finishing this one unfortunately. Very tough game for monarch! I'm in the early 1800s and was trying for conquest, but without vassals and too many cities to go I'm calling it a day. Went through Russia, China and Rome (the other non permanent member of the security council :p) and good way on my way through Vicky, but it's all rifles, redcoats and even SAMs I'm facing, which is rather unusual at this level. Also France and America will be too time consuming in this regard to make me want to actually finish... Maybe I just played a sucky game, maybe vanilla is much harder than BtS, maybe the land was really bad. Maybe a bit of it all. :)
