GOTM help

[purvisxiii]

I'm new to GOTM, but not civ. Where should I be putting the GOTM file? I've tried saves and scenarios folders, but I get an invalid file message ingame.

Please help. I'll even put up with a flame or two if I can get an answer somewhere in between.

If you downloaded it in .SAV format just put it into the civ III Saves folder. That way when you Load Game from the intro screen you should see GOTMXX.SAV.

If you downloaded it in its zipped format all you do is extract the file straight to the Civ III Saves folder and Load Game like normal.

I got an invalid file message last month too.
Try to use the zipped savegame.

I actually tried both. I unzipped to saves folder and I also tried dl'ing .sav file directly into saves folder.

Same result both times.

Did you install the 1.29f patch? You need that for this month's game.

I had the same problem last month (but only with .SAV file not .ZIP) because of compatibility/preference problems with my browser resultaing in a file with a different size.

It is easy to tell if your ZIP file is corrupted as winzip will say that the file is NOT a legal zip file.

If you can unzip it, you have the correct file (ie. the problem is with your Civ program, wrong version/patches...).

If you can't unzip, the problem might be in the download, the solution I found was to use a 'download' program (mine was 'download accelerator', look at places like shareware.com to find one).
