You've got an isolated start and you have, hopefully, established your initial empire. How do you use the Middle Ages to expand your control? Are you controlling the sea-lanes and the trades, or are you in trouble?

Well, I'm still alive. I've lived through a few wars, and I currently own my whole island. Rome is pretty big, the Zulu and I are both about half Rome's size, and the Scandinavians own their island. I've forgotten who else was in the game, but they're gone now. Everyone is basically even as far as techs go. I managed to acquire a GL in the last war with the Zulu; I'm not sure what I'll do with him yet.

My plan now is to go for the UN and hope that the Zulu like me well enough to vote for me by then. If the Vikings don't like me, I think I can get rid of them before the vote, but I'll need the Zulu on my side. If they don't, I'll be headed for space and hoping that the needed resources are available. This may be iffier, though. I don't think Rome can reach the domination limit before I get fission, but the extra time needed for space may do me in (either in a domination loss or a lack of play time in real life).
