The game wasn't well suited for domination. I tried but would have needed a twin to be born with every settler unit (and a lot more time,) so I submitted a conquest victory instead. Rushed settlers and territory maximization probably cost me the BC win. It seemed pretty obvious that this game was designed to make domination more unattractive than ever, which was a nice variation.
I sent small task forces to each civ. The smallest, only 7 horsemen/swordsmen, went to Germany. But I was forced to send another galley to the last German island town, which, surprisingly, they wouldn't give me for peace. The stacks were fairly well balanced, but the distant German town cost me 2 additional turns.
I reaserached Monarchy and then finished the Great Lighthouse for a golden age. But I wish I had stayed in despotism. It would have made for a more interesting and unusual game. On the other hand I don't know what I would have done with all the excess cash in a no research/despotism game. Comparisons will be interesting but I don't expect to stand a chance against for example templar_x, the logstics master, if he participates. For this game was all about logistics and I deployed many ultimately pointless settlers before I gave up domination.
My best moment was in 2750 when I met an American scout across the water. I was able to trade mystisicm which got me closer to Monarchy.
Edit: Connect-disconnect in despotism - wow, that would have been interesting. Darn.
