continued...

975 meet Babylon
925 meet Egypt
850 Monarchy in, stop research
775 see first legion, right when my few troops amass at the Roman gates
Complete TGLight exactly to the shield
2nd lux connected
ATTACK ROME with a handful of units. Kill that legion without losing a unit, so not GA for them yet. (yay, after losing 3 units to barbs in 2 turns…). Capture a worker to build a colony on the iron – i had brought vet warriors along together with the upgrade money. Capture the iron mountain next to Rome.
The date seems so fitting… :D
I CAPTURE ROME.
Revolt for 6t anarchy :-/
710 meet Greece and India as the last yet unknown civs in the same turn. See the nemesis, a 1-tile island
Only now i also realize that we can travel over the y-axis as well!
630 Monarchy established. Rush rax in Rome.
610 rax in Rome finished. Connect iron via colony. Upgrade 5 vet warriors to immortals.
570 first immo victory starts GA!
Set up 1-turn-WF; 20spt in capital (it takes 1 or 2 turns for me to realize that immos are still 30s… thus i build a few chariots until i reach 30spt)
550 take coastal Roman city, prepare to rush harbour, workers connect to Rome/iron
530 rush the harbour to connect iron and 3rd lux
490 2nd town brough to 15spt
470 first amphibious attack
430 finally 1-turn immos in capitol.
410 first elite promotion in quite a few fights.
390 war against Arabia starts. They already built 2 harbours… ! even Deity AIs often do not have them at this time. ;)
370 Romans gone
350 connect 4th lux
310 connect the 5th lux from the Arabian island
290 Arabia destroyed
150 finally 0% lux
110 Egypt destroyed
10 Babylon destroyed
8 luxes connected

30ad Carths gone
130 Indians dead
150 Greece gone – conquest
Not yet, game crashes ... and keeps crashing after the victory screen, no idea why. Edit: after restarting everything, I can get to the next turn however!

a final Picture:

22 E vics without a single MGL. no FP in my game.

the immortal-marine was of course absolutey overpowered but also really cool in this game. except for a few horses and a few units against Rome for he first few turns of war, especially towards the end, i did not build any other land unit. the Monarch AIs were gifted Monarchy right before every attack (once I forgot) and then stood no chance. only few of them even made contacts with each other. no one ever reached the middle Age.

wow templar_x! you are so good at this!

I managed to destroy them all without them getting a modern armor, only a tank. but you finished them off without them getting MA?

How did you manage to do that? only raxes and units? or only improve first ring city? with only what improvements?

few grans, raxes and harbours. and TGLight in this game. unitwise workers, settlers, galleys, warriors, immos and horses. science towards the first govt tech available, which turned out to be Monarchy. no more research after that.

on Monarch the AS won´t be able to build strong empires if you hamper them early on. they are not good at making contacts on a archipelago world, and they are not good at research. so if you are fast, and with some preparation, you will destroy any civ around 10ad within a few turns only.

what helps a lot is to think a game REVERSED, if you want to become a really fast finish. i learnt this through my HoF-games. what does it need to trigger the VC on the last turn, faster than the one who is currently #1? what do i need to prepare for that? that way you won´t build anything you do not need for victory, just because you are so used to it.

Rome was the 1st victim. as i wrote, i had to kill only 1 Legion. i deprived them of iron asap. killed the Legion with archers (i built a few for that Initial war).

carthage just with immos and horses. they were easily overwhelmed, with big numbers on my and little numbers on their side. ;)

AS=artificial stupidity

I won't finish this, too much RL issues, not enough time to play.
Well done t_x, 150 AD is impressive, my projected end date was around 300 AD.

Cool date, templar_x! I was think a good time should be around 400ad.

So what I mean about fun in 3500bc:

I learned this time what not only military unit can pop barbs, but borders too. For making things ever funnier, in the next move my warrior dies trying to dispatch a barb on grass. :D

Research order from start:
Pot- WrC- Alp- Wri- Map, only in 950bc, so early barb-fest and stupid WrC delayed my sea exploration for about 15 turns.

bc2750 - last barb eliminated, a national celebration held )
bc2550 - second city founded
// went for RCP4,7
bc1425 - start wonder prebuild
bc1000 - 11 cities, 23 pop, 0 settler, 6 wrk, 24 warr, $419 in cash, 6 techs
bc 825 - first commlink with Carthage
bc 530 - GrLgt completed
bc 370 - last civ (Babylon) communicated
bc 250 - develop Republic and revolt for 4t
// definitely a mistake - Monarchy is better government for short wargames!
// but I wanna try Rep this time for make sure of this.

bc 150 - hurried harbor to iron, started to upgrade warriors
bc 90 - DoW Arabia
// select Arabian land as better location for small, but good developed 2nd core
// btw Arabs put a absolutely rugged defence, surprising me by quantity of units
// it was much like on emperror diff, probably due their lack of territory for expand

bc 10 - made MA (develop Cur and get Con from last hut (finally not barbs!))
get free Eng, set Feu as last actual research
// all AI civs except Rome & Arabia has contacted with each other
ad 90 - got a 1st leader
ad 130 - FP in founded core city (finally only Mecca had survived from Arab cities)
ad 190 - Arabs destroyed (14 turn spent)
ad 250 - GrLib completed
350 - second core RCP3,6 completed in former Arabia
370 - Egypt destroyed (9)
460 - Carthage destroyed (15)
570 - India destroyed (8)
580 - Babylon destroyed (11)
610 - captured Rome with GrWall
670 - Rome destroyed (8)
690 - Greece destroyed (7)

hardest nuts to crack - Arabs & (my beloved) Greeks (good I take them on last)
weakest civ - India (though I had seen an elephant 1t before destruction, the only knight unit produced by AIs)

Score 6754 firaxis / 10080 jason
Suprisingly big jason for such pathetic date.

And thanks Lanzelot for very entertaining scenario!

Why did you build the Great Library? Did it actually provide any new techs? (And did these techs actually do you any good? - I expected this game to be finished just with Iron Working and a Government tech... Like templar did in his game.)

Why did you build the Great Library? Did it actually provide any new techs? (And did these techs actually do you any good?
It was a very long (530bc) prebuild and in time of completing it was only one useful wonder. It give several MA techs (yes, mostly useless) free, which just allowed me stop research and earns more money.
I expected this game to be finished just with Iron Working and a Government tech... Like templar did in his game.)
Remember I have a serious delay at the start. For time I entered on to world scene all AIs have their iron connected, so I needed larger military and different target priorities.
