GOTM52 crash

I have a crash where my mouse is still active, graphics still display worker actions, etc but I can not click on any action item on the screen. It occurs right after I attack an enemy army in her capital. I took the army HP down to 1 or 2 and then sent in another cav which would then be attacking a musket. Right after I click to attack the musket in the city again the cav does not attack and the game goes unresponsive. I have the save where it can be replicated, should I post it?
I am stuck at this point and now that I have cavs I am ready to steam roll the last opponent.

Send it to ainwood at gotm <at> civfanatics.net. I'd offer to look at it myself, but I haven't started the game yet, and am hoping to play.

My game crashed as well, after agreeing to an audience of a certain opponent (which was requested at the IT). Is it alright to take it from the autosave? I doubt I can completely reproduce my moves, but it was not a particularly interesting turn.

One-off isolated crashes happen. That's largely what autosaves are for. If it isn't reproduceable, and you don't get more than one or two in a game, then just reload the autosave, replay the last moves as accurately as possible - you'll probably remember any significant decisions you made - and press on.

My crashes also not reproduceable, but very often. It happens when I contact Spain. Ferdinand image blinking with Alexander during trade, it is anoying.
Any advices?

Ivan, do you run vanilla? If so, how have you installed the GOTM mods?

If you are not running vanilla, I recommend reinstalling your software.

I am running vanila. I played SGTOM and Spain was OK there. Is SGTOM and GOTM different?

SGOTM and GOTM are (almost) identical. The same mod configuration should work for both. SGOTM 9 includes Spain, but it doesn't include Greece, and you said you had problems with Spain and Greece interfering? I can't imagine what could cause that, but the first place I would check is the pediaicons.txt file. You can find a clean copy of the relevant one here. Try using it to replace the existing one. If you have a default installation it will be in your C:\Program Files\Infogrames Interactive\Civilization III\Text\ folder.

Well, I didn't get a save.....

Have you tried simply waiting a while? I've seen cases where the animations stop, but the game carries on, and 'catches-up' later.

Did you get this resolved? Has it always been a problem?

I was wondering if its somehow a corrupted bik file. :hmm: A reinstall of the GOTM mod might be the best option.

I ran into a crash while trying to bombard a city in a civ with the great wall - it won't hurt units with catapults and once it runs out of improvements to destroy, the next hit would just crash.

I don't want reistall all things, as it works somehow. The remedy I found is to pick up 2 civ at Diplo screen and then talk with Spain. It will blink with the parthner of choise. Alternatively (for 3 o single) game crushes.
I will reinstall things when I finish SGTOM and this GOTM.

This is a known problem - unfortunately there is not a lot that can be done about it. The best bet is simply not to bombard units in cities of the civ with the great wall until you have cannons / artillery, at which point the great wall is obsolete.

One thing to note is that catapults are fairly hopeless for bombarding cities that have walls, so you don't lose too much.

I'm going to try to reinstall MOD too.

I hope you are running vanilla then :hmm: The mod is irrelevant for PtW

The game keeps crashing when I try to talk to Alexander. My game is already probably not submittable because I kept forgetting about it and had to take it from the autosave a couple of times. Shame though, because this was the first GOTM I refrained from reloading, just to be able to submit!

I play PTW, out of the box C3C edition. Did not have this problem in the AA. Any suggestions... or should I just reinstall?

The best bet is probably a reinstall. Do you get any error messages, or a crash report to send to Microsoft? I doubt if M$ would be interested, but sometimes the crash report text can be instructive.

If it's Alex in the later ages only, it points to one or more corrupt leaderhead. They are different .flc files for each age, of course.

Submit it anyway. As long as you've been honest about playing forward from autosaves without reworking your decisions we try to be very understanding. We do need to get to the bottom of it for future games though, if only for your own enjoyment.

Thanks Alan, reinstalling solved the problem. I'll submit my game and let you be the judge of whether it can be accepted.
