Predator Conquest Challenge

Well, my 1800's finish may mean I'm the only person posting their completion details in this section, but...

Entered the IA in the 15th centurty, MPP'd with India against a dominant France. Made slow progress across the French border, but finally declared peace and took a moment to wipe out the remaining Roman, Spanish and then finally french island cities. At the end of which India declared war. But tanks were coming in to play and India had no rubber (tee hee). Sat, according to Civ Assist 4 tiles from dominaton for a good while so ended up raising every Indian city I could see.

Final result: Conquest victory in 1884AD with a pathetic Jason score of 4832. May well be eligable for slowest and lowest scoring conquest here but as it's my first victory of this type I'll just grab a few of the better games and run them through CivReplay. I see already the better players had much closer city spacing on the home island. And I'm still up for the Predator challenge, whatever it may be, in the COTM in a couple of days.

found a nice distance-4 ring around my capitol. filled my small but cozy island. got ~10 archers and declared on Greece. made slow progree. but my ally Roman was taking Greek cities much faster than i did. finally greece was left with one town in the small island west to our starting continent. got the only leader during the way and built the forbidden city in the heartland of greece.

waited till i got berserk and attacked Roman. berserks were just overwhelming. finally pushed roman to the northern part. declared peace due to war weariness.

wanted to play a peaceful game after that but Iron was just too expensive to buy (~200gpt). so had to eliminate Roman to get their iron.

then tech all the way to fission. AI provided great financial support (always ~600gpt from AI) but didn't research a single necessary tech after physics.

finally signed many treaties and sent out a lot of gifts and voting results: 4:2 (me:France).

I had a very similar game like ionimplant. Attacked Greece first and took them out with Roman help. Then ROP raped Rome and took them out with Berserks and finally Cavalry.
I managed to clear Rome and Greece from the table just before the other Continent discovered us so my reputation stayed clean. I settled the home island, the western island and the Roman-Greco island, building the FP in former Greek land with my only leader of the game.
Research straight for Fission. Indians were the strong force on the other continent. Two turns before I finished UN France and India sign a MPP, bummer. Anyway I proceed as planned, turn before researching fission I get India to declare and draw the rest (England and Korea) in on my side. France will not switch to my side for whatever I offer.
UN is completed the same turn fission comes in and I win 3:2. My first ever Diplomatic Victory.

Predator Conquest Challenge

As I entered the Middle Ages, I made contact with the other continent
and allied all except the Greek against India and France. I gifted
Korea and Greece into the Middle Ages and they got Feudalism and
Monotheism, respectively. I discovered The Republic in 590 BC and used
it to buy both these technologies and then after four turns of Anarchy
I researched Chivalry as fast as possible (370 BC) and then
Engineering using a lone Scientist.

In the mean time I attacked Greece with Archers and settled a city
close to its Horses. Connected in 390 BC. I then attacked Rome with
Horsemen and Archers in order to steal its Iron (30 AD). Using Knights
I fought Rome and then Greece. The Roman war brought me to scientific
par with the AI having learned Education and Engineering. Research
then set to Astronomy and Navigation at max.

A first Military Great Leader emerged far away and in the middle of
battle with mostly Elite troops involved, so he formed an Army. A
second soon followed, who rushed Leonardo's Workshop. In the mean time
I had bought Invention for Astronomy from the Indians.

Towards the end of the Greek war I started the Golden Age with a
Berserk win (410 AD). During the Golden Age I had three cities
building one-turn Horsemen, which were then upgraded to Knights and
later Cavalry.

Shipping the troops over straight eastwards with Caravels I started
the war against France in 480 AD and went on counterclockwise to
destroy France in 560 AD, Greece (lone Caravel with Settler on board)
and Korea in 680 AD, Spain in 700 AD and England in 710 AD. A new
Palace was built using a Leader in Paris in 600 AD. The new core
improved my economy with about 30% but the shield surplus never got
big enough to make a difference.

India had risen to quite a power while I was busy on my own continents
and also had The Great Wall. This was a reason for not attacking the
other continent from both ends. I signed a Right of Passage agreement
and moved in with Cavalry. In 740 AD I declared war and destroyed it in
one fell swoop destroying 21 cities. Delhi with the Sistine Chapel I
kept for the love of mankind.

Conquest victory in 750 AD.

Sloppy play in the latter stages probably cost me a few turns. In
particular i forgot to move all captured Workers towards the jungle
midriff roading me a passage. But on the other hand I had plenty luck
most of the time.

Won in 1550 AD. Domination. I tried to conquer Greece before Berzerks, which was a mistake, lost oo many archers. Than had to struggle vs Rome. When they finally fell, I researched up to Cav, allied everyone vs the strongest on the other continent (india), after tey were down to 2 cities, I allied the others vs France and conquered GLib in (French) Madrid.

Then conquered England and Korea while France had got Infantry. But managed to squeeze territory with aggressive settling and money spent on culture. Maybe it was a bad decision to go for Republic but in the end I could rush a lot.

Pursued a 100K victory. Took out the Greek in the early AD's with berserks and moved the capitol there. Then took out the Romans, again with berserks before 1000AD. Then started building a lot of cities and a lot of culture.

As I don't think many people will go for 100K, I didn't went as fast as I could. I stayed in Republic and on the local three islands. Early 1700's I crossed the 100K mark. But alas I didn't have twice the culture the French had.

The French had eaten up the Koreans and English and were now beating up the Spanish. I allied with the Spanish and brought in the Indians as well. The Spanish and Indians did the fighting while I concentrated on nuking the whole of France. I did get back some 6 nukes, but strangely enough only hit a major city (Stockholm my FP city). With the other 5 ICBMs Joan shot 2 unimportant cities; 1 city 3 times and 1 city twice. Though the repeated attacks did cost me some clean-up crews no real harm was done.

I must have shot between some 30 to 50 ICBMs at France, first the major cities and then the infra between the cities. After a century of nuking I landed a dozen MA to start razing the French cities. Finally in 1912 enough of France was razed to get a 100K VC. My culture was almost 200K then.

Though the global heating sun was dark red, the only trouble I got from it was the disapperence of the tundra forests. After replacing them by mines I had no hinder from global heating what so ever.

Fun game, and it was nice to fight with ICBMs again. There aren't many games where that happens.

No real option, is there - considering how much communism stinks in ptw?

I beg to differ. There's no alternative to communism if you want a good 100k date in ptw. It may stink, but it still does what it's meant to do. Of course it helps a lot if you are Religious and can switch back and forth.

Even a religious civ loses a turn of culture when switching governments. Would you really want to do that when going for 100k?

That was probably one of the most enjoyable (time consuming) GOTMs I've played. After settling the starting island in peace, I beelined to beserks to start my rampage. Greece was a push-over, with no towns on hills and only the 2 inland towns. I turned my attention to the Romans, who proved to be a difficult foe. The Legionarys and MDI's proved to be too difficult to take out in 1 shot, or even 2 shots (2nd attempt was the beginning of my cavalry)

After killing Rome, I went through most of the IA without war, at least until I had a decent oil-based navy and attacked the floundering Spanish coastal towns (with tanks :D). France had already killed England, and were working their way through Spainish mainland with India and Korea. When I was taking the last Spanish island town (killing them) I noticed neither India or Korea had rubber, so I shipped over 72 units of cavalry and tanks to a small Indian town. It took another 5 turns at most to kill off India, with my MPP buddy France razing a couple of size 1 towns. Peace came back for a short time while I built a few nukes, and when Korea sneak attacked France and stole my city, my counter-attack netted a GL which was used to build an ICBM :D :nuke:. Korea fell shortly after I nuked their capital. This left me with ~63% of the worlds land, so I used my 7 stockpiled nukes to obliterate some french cities, hitting the domination limit in 1764. Fun game overall, and the only thing that stopped me from conquering the other continent earlier was the Romans building 4/8 towns on hills.

Actually, they don't. I was surprised by this, but it's true. Every single town loses a turn of culture, which means it's bad towards 20k, but the empire as a whole gains the culture.

Check out my spolier for GotM 44 http://forums.civfanatics.com/showpost.php?p=2912193&postcount=61 and you'll see what I mean.

Most peculiar - yes, the last time I checked on this it was in the context of a 20k game, so I just assumed it was the same for empire-wide culture.

Communism suffers the despot penalty?!? I didn't realise that. Last time I used it was the Russian GOTM (100k) and my only lasting memory of it was that Communism was totally worthless and I would never use it again. Now I see why that was... so what's the point of Communism over Despotism, given that Communism just makes your whole empire nearly 95% corrupt?

No, it doesn't, my comment in that spoiler is a bit misplaced. Don't know what I was thinking really. I guess my point was running in Republic to gain the full growth as opposed to being in constant Anarchy. But then in Anarchy I wouldn't have gotten the culture, so that wouldn't have been an option. But this was 15 months ago, so I'm not surprised I can't remember what I meant. :p

It's true about the near 95% corruption. I guess it's the pop-rushing ability you're after. Later patches may have improved the corruption too, but it used to be awful.
