OCC Report: A very nice starting location with grass, river and wine. From the two visible specials and the hut the Resource Seed is easily discovered to be 8, which means our starting location falls in a band of Whale-type specials (Wine and Wheat are, and Wheat can easily become Silk).

Two city-founding locations are worth considering: 81,55 which is the head of the river, has three specials (Wine, Wheat and something in the black to the north) as well as six river tiles but no access to Ocean, and 83,59 which has only four river tiles but four specials (two in the black to the southeast) and Ocean access.

Starting with two Settlers allows quick settlement as well as hut popping and early irrigation, or ten turns of city growth and then join to the city for a quick size 3 (able to celebrate). The latter is useful when several starting techs permit early Monarchy or Republic; with only Masonry as a freebie Monarchy is still 5 rounds away or Republic in 6. Now if we had Alphabet we could be reaching either government in 4 rounds... Ah well, can't have everything!

Oh dear, why did I discover this just when I need to be revising for exams...

I hope it doesn't matter if the AD1/AD1000 saves are off by a turn or two? I missed both deadlines by a couple of turns.

I haven't played on King for so long, it feels like a slightly different game... everybody's so irrationally happy all the time.

I'd go and write a proper introduction post for myself, but then I'd end up reading the other forums, and then I'd probably start playing Civ4 and then any hope of revision would just go out the window! Now, this summer on the other hand...

Can this be true? All spaceships land successfuly. This certainly would change spaceship building strategy!

Yes. The percentage shown is the % of 400 points that you get, NOT the % of success. So, if it will launch, it will land...

I suppose the conquest players who are made to play to a landing game would be appreciative too.

We can make the next GOTM a quickie by design to make up for it. I have just the right game for this purpose from my collection of custom designed ones. I will be happy to post it if Duke approves.

The original deadline was the 13th, so there's still a week left. If needed, people can take an extra week to finish it.

Thank you Lord Valuna.

Above all, congrats to Peaster. He is a conquest player who had to play for space ship because of the special rules of this game. He beat 19 other players (I am not counting those who played OCC) to it despite his lack of experience. And on top of that he still managed to get the green star.
