I'm not much for slingshots. 1st, they are a bit to complicated for my warmongering mind to pay attention to long enough (what? a civ is close to me?? Rush time!). 2nd, they are gambles in most cases. C, they strike me as kinda cheesy.

However, I recently noticed, by chance, that a GP will lightbulb CS if you have theology and not monarcy. The problem is how to get to that point. A great artist (from music?) will lightbulb theo, and then the GP can get CS. Of course, this seems like a terribly round-about way to get CS (unless you are pursuing a culture victory?).

The reason I post this is that I cannot fathom the possible routes to such a sling, but I want to know if it is, in fact, possible - or even reasonable (for a certain leader/victory strat perhaps). I've thought about it for awhile (it kinda haunts me), but I just do not know enough about great people production, or the tech tree to figure it out. Besides, there is always the one in a million chance that I've discovered something! (ok, the odds aren't quite that good).

At any rate, answers will most certainly learn me something about great people production, the tech tree, and slingshots in general.

I wont take offense if you simply reply "no" :)

they nerfed it pretty much so there are only roundabout ways now. It used to be that you could either Use a GP to discover CS if you didnt have masonery, i still think this is possible in vanilla though. There are loads of threads on what people pop what techs. There is one in strategy articles called great people tech preferences or somethign similar that list the order a Great person will pop techs. Math have also become a prereq for CS making it soo much harder to sling CS of oracle. Normaly i just selfreasearch CS now since Theology is pretty much a dead end tech that i seldom bother with.

The trouble with the artist from Music is that it will first propose to lightbulb Theatre then Monarchy and then theology !!! Making it impossible for the GP to propose CS ...

Thanks for the replies. What if you have an excess of GPs, and you have math. The 1st one could get theo, and the second one CS.

You could sling Theo off the Oracle, research CoL while the Oracle builds your gpps for you, and trade for Math....

peace,
lilnev

When playing to monopolize religions, the opportunity often comes up. Research the first 3 religions normally, Oracle takes CoL, prophet 1 takes theology, trade for mathematics and prophet 2 usually offers CS (or you can build a shrine and bulb CS with prophet 3.)

You can lightbulb CS using a GM if you got the required techs, Metal Casting, Currency, COL, Monarchy

I looked at the lightbulb preferences, are they updated for the patch (they prob haven't changed, right?). This thread has done a world of good in helping me to understand how to use that knowledge. The examples of possibilities really clarify things. Perhaps there could be a compilation of possible slings (there seems to be so many).

Thanks again!

Here's an example of the CS Slingshot using a GM Here
