Gr3 - Mayan Continental AWE

Thankfully, I managed to finish within ten, averting the possibility of bring shame onto my family.

First two turns were mostly getting myself mentally prepared for the task ahead. Preparation included this landing:

Germans are going down! Adrenaline flowing (or something - I just bombed a test in biology on hormones, so what the hell do I know), tanks arollin'. Then, for all that excitement, it turned out to be a really easy capture, and we added great riches to our already burgeoning treasury.

And the message for which I was waiting:

Ignoring the custom of a chronological order of events as is typical around these parts, I'd like to take you back to a time when the Germans were still alive and the children still innocent. Five years ago, in 1635AD, one of our [fully healed] glorious armies fell at the walls (literally - it was a size five on a hill with walls) of Izibia. Enraged, hordes of Mayans rushed to Izibia to avenge the deaths of fallen comrades.

Once accomplished, our armies made some serious ground elsewhere.

Some more years passed, less exciting to some. With no cultural borders of our own to push back on Babylon's and Egypt's, moving on to their cities took more turns than anything else. We did continue making progress, and by 1655 AD it was really getting towards the end for our opponents.

With the game all but over, I made a huge mistake.

I somehow didn't realize that the above amount of territory added up to 66%. So I was rather surprised to recieve this message.

Oh well, too late now.

To satisfy the team's wishes, I continued playing on.

Cities, cities, cities, and...

a couple more cities, and...

and...

and...

no message. I am glad we won by domination, as I don't really feel like searching boats for Babylonian settlers. That is just no fun at all. Anyway, we do have the minimap, all in blue, so that's something.

1660 AD save is before we are at domination. If you want to see replay, capture a couple cities, or play on til conquest, I guess. 1665 AD save is when I was all done, so I guess you can go settler searchin'.

Whew. All done now. Didn't even feel like a challenge with our start and this team. Though I think I have changed my mind on the next game. AW are a bit heavy, and I am looking to at least cut back on time spent playing in SGs, if not the actual number I am in (though I have managed that to a degree - I can count them all without taking off my socks, which wasn't true for about a month).

congratulations to the team :goodjob:

that's a pretty decent score for AW at emperor level.

and on we go, seems the major mood is no AW for a while? well, maybe we should follow microbe's idea thread?

Great game. I would have liked to win by to Conquest but it was fairly tough. We caught out out continent early and that helped. Looking forward to the future.

Does getting the conquest win message matter that much? We cleared the continent of all cities...

well, we could have researched espionage, then build the small wonder and stolen the plan to locate the settler boat

I don't mind and dragging a game for this reason is not my taste.

Which kind of victory? If it is conquest, I am going to reach through the monitor and smack you.

Good work on the win Bedhead. Conquest was clearly within our grasp so the Domination win doesn't bother me. It was clear conquest was also easily doable within a turn or two.

Microbe, for me this game was my relaxing game - a very straight forward AW game. Not sure why I like AW so much - I am fairly sure I have played more AW SG's than anyone else. I do agree combat intensive games take up more time.

I hope to start the Demi game soon. Will post a link here when I do.

So far Bedhead and Barbslinger have shown interest in the new game.

greebley, I like AW games too. handy is continuing his series here as well and I joined, let's see whether I join your game once you start the thread
