I have been playing Civ4 Beyond the Sword sense september but a couple days ago it started having this problem. The game freezes up for a secound then shuts down and it says 'can not allocate sufficient memory for ghraphics...try reducing ghraphic settings' i tried reducing the graphics and defragging the drive, they helpped but it didn't solve the problem. I know about the ATI graphic card and downloaded the patch for it.

Also i have a friend who recently bought Beyond the sword but when he tries to start it the screen goes totaly blank.

Any ideas?

Yes you and friend are not alone. The fact you and someone immidietly close have both expienced similar problems does show civ4+BtS = very hardware intensive game

Now add up all the other 'you and friend' around the worldand its quite amazing really to how many are not playin this game at peak potential. I mean just think, add up all the others who are above you guy's specs avoid the crashes, yet still suffer really laggish gameplay. Its bet its almost a majoty now since BtS has been stacked on.

You need more ram and mybe better g card. Hopefully your not using the onboard graphics chip. One, you stop using this. Two, a tiny improvement tip that gaurnatees(sp!) you a boost once you do, is as follows:

1 press F2 when you turn on computer.
2. GO to BIOS and find the menu that lets you lower the default ram allocated to you intergrated graphics chip.

3. It will be set at 64mb. AS long as you have an external graphics card this is a waste so it can be saftly lowered to 8mb there by scoring you 56 mb of free ram for civ4 to utilize (may give you 5-10% more ram depending if your at 512mb or 1024mb, even more when you realize the OS is alotted a big junk of that.)
Sorry thats all I got. Try surfing your problem on the sites google engine till more answers come
