Graphics and gameplay bug

Up until last night every game of Civ V has run perfectly fine. However, once I started a new game yesterday I noticed something was wrong. Every game I started had the marsh tiles replaced by an all black tile (red and white checkerboard when using DirectX 9). I also noticed that no luxury resources appeared in my games. I have tried changing all the in-game settings to no avail, tried reinstalling the game, and when I would try and verify integrity of game cache it would say "2 files failed to validate and will be reacquired." None of this has worked however. If anyone has any ideas as to what I should do please let me know.

Red + white checkerboards are normally a sign for problems with the graphics card.
So in case you haven't updated the driver yet, then please do it.
Cleaning out the comp from dust might also be advicable (that could also explain why the problems happen now: More dust).

I updated my driver today and it did not seem to solve anything as these black and red tiles still appear. My feeling is that it's not just the graphics card, but some kind of corrupt data. If it were just these tiles that were the issue it would be okay, but it is also the fact that there are absolutely no luxury or strategic resources that show up in my games.

Did you keep varifying the cache? It is quite possible that there are more corrupt files. It may even be neccessary to find the files and manually delete them your self, so that they are actually replaced. I wish that I could tell you which files, perhaps a modder would know which files affect those tiles.
