I"ve reloaded over and over again, but for some reason, at the very next turn after this autosave, the game slows down and a bunch of icons disappear, and when I go into a city, the city layout panel won't appear, and eventually the game crashes.

This is with BtS 3.19. No mods needed.

What's causing this?

I loaded the save on my system, seems to be working fine here i can play into it for several turns without anything bad happening.

I would normally suspect that you ran out of memory, but with 4GB that would be reaallly strange..

Could theoretically be the case though if you got one of those Video Cards with share the system RAM (saw your dxdiag file, but i didn't bother to look up your gfx-card model to check if this is the case). Lets say 1GB is used by windows for all the various crap thats going on there, then youre running a high resolution and your gfx card is gobbling up another Gig. Let's say you have a web browser open with tons of tabs and flash apps runnig taking another G, and that could mean there is only 1G left for Civ4 and your late-game save which could end up being not enough..

When the game crashes do you get a error message?

Yes, I get an error message, but it only says that it stopped working and windows 7 couldn't find a solution. Usually it crashes when I try to do something in the city, such as change production orders.

As for graphics, this is a laptop, with a NVIDIA GeForce GT 130 M graphics card (1 gig shared).

I tried starting a new game on the same map, with similar settings, but with always peace disabled and no espionage enabled, and a different civ, but unfortunately, I wound up at the exact same starting spot, and i played it, and the game borked up again, at the exact same turn as the first game. This time, I took screenshots of the graphics bork, but I exited the game before it would've crashed. Here's the new saved game, and I've provided the map file too, in case any one wants to test it.

EDIT: I did some testing, and I realized that it happens when, in the BC portion of the calendar, the turn increments switch over to months, in the final part of the allotted time frame, depending on the game speed I chose. Is this a known bug, and is there a fix for it?
