I want to upgrade my graphics card but there's too many to choose from and I can't decide.

PC specs:
Gigabyte GA-7VAXP
Athlon 2200 XP
256mb DDR
64mb GeForce MX 440

I can't afford an expensive one, maybe something around £60. I only use the comp for gaming so graphics card best suited to that would be good.

Some people swear by Radeon, others by NVidia. Myself, I don't care. I've got a NVidia card, and it plays Civ3 just fine.

How about going to your local computer store, putting your money down, and asking for the best card for that price?

I'm guessing most people here will suggest the radeon, tho.

Yup, either Nvidia or Radeon are your best bet. Ya, 60 (pounds, where is that Pound key?) should be fine (I am just thinking about the exchange rate. I have an Nvidia GeForce 64Mb, could be what you currently have. I like it, it works just fine, nary a problem. Updating to the 128 Mb might be your best bet . . .

I would reccomend a Radeon 9600 right now - that should be around 60 pounds if I got my conversion factors right - they cost about $100 in the US. Just DO NOT get one made by Powercolor. Go with ATI built, or Sapphire.

edit: also, make sure you DONT get the "SE" version - they are cripplied, but only slightly cheaper. Just get the plain Radeon 9600.

DreadCthulhu, I bought one for £117 at the beginning of January. Either I was ripped off, or you ain't good at maths ;)

(I also recommend the 9600 if you can afford it)

Edit: Ohh, I got a 256Mb Pro.

The other not-insignificant point is that computer hardware seems to be more expensive in the UK than in the US or Singapore.

Eg.
Newegg.com - Price = US$ 95 (GBP 51.07)

Nitro Shopping - Price = (US$ 155.21) GBP 83.43 :crazyeye:

P.S. $NZ price = $223.74 (US$ 152)

That newegg.com seems interesting. If I were to buy me a R9800Pro AIW for 319.00$. It would be 254€. Here the same card would be around 410€ so if I figured it out right, after tolls I could save about 100€/125$. newegg.com doesn't however sell outside US. So I would have to get someone on the US soil to buy that card for me and send it here.

I just got an Asylum GeForce FX 520 256 MB on sale for $100.

U$D I'll bet. I am thinking I should upgrade my trusty NVidia GeForce 4 64 Mb, but I have yet to see it not work well. Should I stick with NVidia, or go Radeon when I do upgrade? Let me put it this way, has anybody had any problems with either?

I've heard from friends that the Radeon 9600 is a good card and cheap too - £67. I think I'm going to get one.

Mine is nVidia. No serious complaints. I had to download some special drivers for Knights of the Old Republic, but whatever.

Yea its US currency. It works like a charm. Even my most advanced games at full detail are running smoothly.

I have not had a problem with the card. It has run nice and ssssmmmmmmmoooooottttttttthhhhhhhh thus far. I am having problems with Micro$oft though, but I can easily alleviate the problem, so all is happy!!!
