OK here's an update.
I found a program called
Milkshape 3D that's a lot easier to use than 3D Studio Max and it gives you a 31 day free trial. With the help of a
tutorial I've been able to draw myself most of a leg...
The good news is, once you draw half of a body you can just mirror it and PRESTO! you have the other half and you're done. The bad news is, the english version of this tutorial only takes you up to creating most of the leg. More good news is that there's a
german version that covers everything, but the bad news is, of course, it's in German. Never fear, though, because the good news is that altavista.com's
Babel Fish Translator can translate the German into English well enough that you can understand the instructions. But wait... the bad news is the instructions for the rest of the body aren't that great anyway!
Well, I commend you if you're brave enough to try this, especially since I have no idea whether or not it will result in a successful, entirely new unit for civ3. To give you an idea of time sink, it took me about 3 hours to create a leg from just below the buttocks to just above the ankle.
Anyway, if and when I complete a basic human body, I'll post it here so you can download it and go from there.
