Hi I just started playing the game and I'm massive CIV fan .... but I have a got a keen eye for quality and visual standards. I noticed that the game on win7 64Bit pro ... seems to suffer from a very bad screen tear problem. The moment u scroll or navigate the map ... overscan lines start appearing in the center or above centre which clearly show a tear in the games graphics between the upper half of the frame and the lower half. Has anyone else noticed this .... as it is really putting me off from playing this as DarkSiders on the 360 had this issue but the graphics on that game are really good for what it is so you can forget this small problem but in SD:Rs its pretty bad ... you can't even pan the screen for a second or two before seeing it ........ it's pretty easy to spot.

Any thoughts and ideas on this isse are welcomed in the form of replies.

There is no need to patch this game ...

as via steam it comes downloaded automatically patched to 1.1. As I just loaded it up not only 10 minutes ago to confirm this. Also Steam automatically issue patches once they enter thir live updates servers.

Seriously, welcome to the Civilization Fanatics' Forums, blanka.

I am no techie and I do not own any Steam games, so I really can't offer you much help with the trouble you are having running the game. About all I can say is that Railroads! was not designed for Windows Vista, let alone Windows 7. I have read *somewhere* (possibly on the Hooked on Railroads! forums) that extra RAM helps make Railroads! more playable, but I don't know whether it would be the solution to the problem you are having or not.

Good luck!

Thanks for replying GreyBriar.

I kinda thgt abt that anyways .... but nevertheless I am running Win7 64Bit with 4gb of ram ... Pro Edition. I dont play much games on it anymore ... as im a Xbox gamer now my pc gaming days are behind me. But my heart will always be with the RTS crowd.

I was wondeing if there were any other ways of running the game as I have images of my machines set up so I can revert back whenever I want but still I cba going back to winXp for the sake of this game. I'd much rather taking it on the chin instead. Oh well !

Thanks for the link ... thats something for me to check out tonite. Some night time reading .... heheh got bored of MW2 now so am back to my PC for a while till Dantes Inferno is out. :)

Been checking out the forums link u sent me dude .... its the best forums resource for railsroads so far man I have seen and nice to this game has a nice cult following behind its a shame rhe game is riddled with issues man the developers behind the game will not help you.

Just to keep you guys updated.

I run a win7 64 bit pro config with 4gb of memory.

I noticed that the game runs smoother and better with higher settings on my PC in window mode as a posed to full screen mode with the latest release of drivers from nvidia. The game still exhibits a very mild form of screen lag that is no where near as the bad the screen tearing issue I noticed in dark siders and this game ofc. So thats my fix ... window mode. ;)

Thanks,
Blanka

Hey Blanka great to see that Hooked on Railroads helped you. True we are a bit of a cult, I suppose. But really SMR is a good game and it is the newest thing we have in the genre. I am pretty sure I know what Graybrier was talking about, although instead I'll send you over here: http://www.smrsimple.com/2009/12/play-larger-maps-3gb-enabler/

The patch may or may not work with the Steam version of the game, although I suspect it will you just have to search and find where Steam stores the Railroads.exe.

The same link has a ton of user made maps for when you get tired of the stock ones.

hey thanks man for the headsup.

This path is this to allow the game to see more memory as I'm a windows 7 64bit user any ways so majority of the application i use and build make use of the large and physical addressing space made available to them automatically via the O.S. If the patch is for the game i.e the instructions are for the game to allow it to see large memory environments then please do clarify this for me as I run on a minimum of 4gb.

Like most games from that era SMR lacks a LAA(Large Address Aware) entry in the header. Thus it is artificially capped at 2GB(On both 32bit and 64bit OSes without the patch). The patch adds this entry to the header allowing the application to request upto 4GB.

I had the same problem (tearing). I fixed it by going to my videocard settings (the Nvidia configuration page) and setting up a profile for Railroads! with vertical sync forced on. No more tearing!

I'm running the Steam version in Windows 7 (64-bit). I've had crashes in the terrain editor, but none in-game so far. Haven't tried the 3GB enabler yet.
