What about optional high contrast icons for the tile productivity overlay? Just throwing that out there, I don't know if the idea has occurred to anyone else.

Oh and go taze EF until we get a Bug DLL release :)

Remove the transparency, use simpler icons with less shading, and increase the difference between worked and unworked tiles.

I'm not trying to boss you around, just throwing stuff out there :D

3 buttons that indicate the following (for the wonders tab on F9)

wonders
national wonders
projects

so that I can replace the drop down with toggles.

not sure - prob similar to the city trade / food / hammer / etc icons (one off and one on) but I have no idea for the actual style.

  • World Wonders: Globe or Pyramid
  • National Wonders: Flag or Red Cross
  • Projects: :hammers: or Mushroom Cloud (Manhattan Project)

Why globe as a WW?

I'd like the mids as they're probabely the most used/discussed/popular WW.

For NW I like the red cross (though that might have something to do with my origin :D) what kind of flag are you thinking of?

Mushroomcloud for projects sounds good.

I'd also request two icons for the Begging Assistant should it be doable: Two "present-based" icons (like the one to klick when gifting units), one showing two presents, a bigger and a smaller one (both a bit transparent) for showing the magnitude of the gift and the other a present with a "%", "?" or "%?" for showing the % of getting a gift successfully
See what I mean? :D

Globe = world. World wonder, so yeah. :p Also, a globe is easier to see at small scale than a pyramid. (Hey, what's that triangle mean?)

In retrospect, this might be difficult to see at a small scale. Also, turns out I can't make one that looks that good, so we're moving towards a rocket (still with the Manhattan Project in mind).

 I'm not entirely sure what you mean. I guess I should play the game more often...

I probabely should add that my answer was as close to my first "instinct" when reading those options for icons. I guess that's what happens in most cases, as UIs often work best when they're intuitive.

OFC Globe = World. But when I see the Globe Theatre Icon (and that's what it's gonna be), national wonders come to mind (I think that's not so far-fetched, no? :D).
Now that I've seen your Flag Icon I see how the others might look like once... and I don't think it's hard to create such an icon. I must say I'm neither good at drawing nor that crative but I'll try to describe what I have in mind:
The Pyramids (of Gizeh) are three large pyramids (meaning the geometrical shape :p) which are next to each other. The largest one has this "special" tip, in the wonder movie it's golden I think. Why not have three "triangles" (in yellow or so) with one having a golden tip? I think that's quite easy to spot.
A real-live pic showing more or less the view I mean can be found here.

RE NW icon:
Again, I'm not really connecting this flag to "National Wonders" though I can't come up with a decent alternative (besides, probabely, the red cross...).

I see the problem here. Although a rocket doesn't seem really easy either...

When you're having an unit active, you see a "present" icon if the unit is in another AI's land.
Now picture that Icon scaled down and made a bit more transparent (both the smaller and the original presents transparent). Now put both presents on one icon, showing something like "growth" or whatever. I've (and you too I'm sure) seen that effect when having twice the same objects, once smaller, at once, seem like the object is growing (or shrinking...). Still don't understand (no blame :p)? I'll eventually manage a sufficiently accurate example or find one somewhere...

Before I read this, I made a quick mock-up of a pyramid:

What do you think?
Oh, and here's the globe:

Yeah, this is going to be a tough one. The flag works because we also use it on PLE and also, there are links with Nationalism.

Compare:

The rocket's easier to see, right?

I think I get what you mean. I'll see if I can do that at some point soon.

The mushroom cloud there is a little easier for me to spot, though I know ahead of time what both are, so it's hard to compare. If you make the top oval more into the mushroom cap (the sides curve in and up), it might be easier. Also, feel free to make it a dark gray silhouette instead.

I like the pyramid; it's exactly what I was thinking. I like going with these actual wonder icons because I think they're less abstract. Also, we'll probably eventually add the two flags (green and red) to limit the list by your and rivals' wonders. ;)

 when I read, I thought of the globe theatre (probabely because it was mentionned just before the mids by EF firstly...).

I like the pyramids icon though having a golden tip might make it clearer (if you manage to add two smaller pyramids (like in my link)).

I don't think I'd recognise the mushroom cloud instantly but much rather the rocket. Looks very good imo

As for NWs, is it possible to create a simle icon of the american capitol? I think that might be assotiated with national wonders easily.

Another possibility for the Projects button is the radiation symbol. It's easily recognizable and round--perfect for a button. :)

Okay, tried to emphasise the gold bit at the top:
pyramid1.png

I can't really fit three onto one button. It just won't go:
pyramid3.png

And trying to make a more obvious mushroom cloud:
exploson.png

I don't really want to go with the radiation button if we can avoid it. Not sure why, but it just feels like it wouldn't go.

EDIT: Just noticed EF's going to need the flags for something else. *grumbles* Any ideas? Here's a Red Cross one:

I haven't looked at this MOD yet (so maybe this has been addressed) but here are some issues I have with the graphics.

1. It's very difficult to see enemy stacks - the map is very noisy. I just started using the icons (the ones you set when you zoom out to globe view) but maybe something better can be done? I was thinking of something very tall (like a cylinder) jutting above the stack reaching towards the heavens, the more units the taller the cylinder. Something that you can't miss.

2. The resource overlay on the main map I never use because I can't distinguish between what's being worked on and what isn't. The difference is too subtle. Could the white circles (or something like that) that are shown in the city view be displayed on the main map when you turn on the resource overlay?

I'll think of more...

I have here the present icon from the game so you probabely have some basis to work on...
