Graphics team weirdos

I think this calls for a revision of Godwin's law: if you start a thread while even hinting at Hitler or Nazis, the thread will generate replies regardless of its actual significance.

hmm, so where are these swastikas ? Well, in my game, when you build a city it shows on the main map a boundary around the city where your territory ends in the colour of your Civ. As the city gets culture, these borders expand. On my game the graphics to show the boundary of your territory looks like swastikas. Well, even if it's not actual swastikas, I still think it's messy.

Is weirdos an insult ? well, whatever. Some people just can't handle criticism I guess.

The lingo for that type of cultural sphere is a fat cross.

This picture is probably taken when the camera has changed, so the tiles aren't diamond shaped.

Constructive criticism can be handled. Complaints that obviously have little to no basis in reality are usually savaged. If you think the "fat cross" looks like a Swastika you should check out this website.

Miracle nun bun indeed. :P

Frankly, this is ridiculous. Trust me, as a German I'm quite sensitive as to the appearance of swastikas, and, no, I haven't seen any in the game.

I'd really like to see a screenshot of what you think "looks like swastikas". Like the others here, I can't think of anything to do with the boundaries that could look like that.

Maybe the person is iconically challenged and has mixed up the Iron Cross with the Swastika. Both symbols for the German military in the twentieth century. :crazyeye:

But he suggested 'a dotted line'. He sounds as though he is talking about the actual boundary, not the whole area. So in that case, there aren't any crosses either!

I like the way roads are routed... I do wish they were re-routed when railroads were placed, but that would involve creating anywhere up to three times the number of tile textures. As a developer it's time-saving to simply replace the road textures with rail textures when it's upgraded...but anyways.

A city's workable radius doesn't look anything like a swastika to me, of course it doesn't look much like a fat cross either. It's just a square with it's corners chopped off for goodness sake :)

Indeed, We should refer to this as Ray Patterson's Corollary

I am beginning to think I have a different version of the game from you guys My screen shot for a city boundary looks nothing like the one shown in calyth's post earlier in the thread. I might try to get my screen shot into here although I don't know how to do it. Anyway Civ is running on my other comp. It won't run on this one.

I find calyth's screenshot confusing. How could it be so different ? I wish mine was like that. It's much closer to what I would like.

1. In you game, prees "print screen". A box should come up telling you that your screenshot has been saved, and in which folder it's located. (If there is no box telling you that, read "2, alt.")
2. Exit civ4 and navigate to the folder described in the game.
3. See this post: http://forums.civfanatics.com/showpost.php?p=3388098&postcount=321

2, alt. After pressing "print screen" with no response, exit the game, open paint or another photo editing application, and press Edit (I think) -> Paste. Save the screenshot anywhere on your computer.
3, alt. See this post: http://forums.civfanatics.com/showpost.php?p=3388098&postcount=321

What do you make of this ?

Foolishly I assumed it was a design feature :crazyeye:
Seems like my graphics card is behaving oddly

Yes, I guess that does resemble swasticas a bit. What graphics card/drivers do you have?

EDIT: Also, even your own terrain seems to be in fog of war. This is probably another flaw.

Well I suppose I can see some vague resemblance to swastikas there, but it is definitely not supposed to look like that. Boundaries should look as they do in Calyth's screenshot. For some reason each segment seems to have the same symbol (not a swastika) laid across it. I haven't seen a problem like this, but you definitely have a few other graphics issues as well. Fog of war seems to be over everything including your own terrain, and several of the weird boundaries aren't in the right place to start with.

Can't say much more without knowing the graphics card and system configuration.

Whoa, psychadelic graphics FTW! :)

Just check out that frigate!

Anyways, yeah, it's a graphics problem.

My ships also always glow in the colour of my civ like on the screenshot, but that's a minor problem.
