Great People Improvements?

As far as we seen, Admiral doesn't have an Improvement, the screen shots simply shows Golden Age button. So currently it doesn't seem like he has an improvement.

I tried to make a post, but my "token" was expired :(

Anyway... was just agreeing that artists should add to happiness. They should have a special tile or building that creates culture and happiness because that's what Great Artists do for civilizations. Elvis and The Beatles brought joy and happiness in addition to spreading culture.

Marilyn Monroe made a lot of people happy... she still does!

Culture bomb should give a one time bonus of 100% or 200% the culture per turn, besides the current land grabbing.

In my oppinion the great merchant improvement is too week, 3 more gold than a trade post if I recall.

I have had use of all the others improvements, but the merchant I usually use for a golden age or a trade mission.

I think that most important than improving the Great merchant skills is increasing the number of wonders which spawn them, because there are just a few wonders which gives Great Merchant Points . This expansion might add just one wonder that gives Great Merchant Points(Petra),although I'd like there add at least 4 wonders which gives GMP .

It could work in a similar way the beliefs work.

There's a pool of great people, you pick the one you need the most, and voila.

Sounds a lot like the founding fathers in Colonization, I think that would be pretty awesome. Each time you get a Great Person you get to choose from the pool; each different Great Person has a passive ability that is permanent in addition to getting to expend them in the usual way.

A lot of people do... Especially in multiplayer. People get 1-3 Early academies in cap and then save the rest of their great scientists for the end game/rushing key techs.

Academies are extremely powerful, and plenty of people build them. I win about 80% of my games in multi and I can say I almost always build an academy in each of my games. Or take one from another civ.

Point being they are very powerful and underestimated

Thanks for the Great Scientist information. Great artists definitely need a boost though.

The culture bomb ability is indeed a weird one, and one that should probably be canned.

A lot of good ideas here about what to do with the Great Artist.

Someone said you should be able to use a Great Artist in order to unlock a free Social Policy. The problem with that is a SP is much more valuable than a single research (which is what a Great Scientist gives you). If people keep stacking GA's, then entire trees can be locked extremely quickly, and take the other Civs very off guard. I think it just might be a tad too powerful.

Instead, they could do something like, you can expend the GA in order to increase production of a current Social Policy by 25-50%. So it would be most wise to use your GA at the start of learning a new policy, or if you're in a rush you can desperately use it mid-way through a policy etc.

There are two other ideas here, that I thought were good. GA's should be able to raise happiness in some shape or form. An artist primary job is to entertain, so it makes sense.

The other idea is a Golden Age, but for Culture. That would be pretty awesome. This might be the best idea for expending the GA.

I've always thought that it was weird that Great People are all named, yet none of their abilities are distinctive from each other. It would be nice if the Civ crew took sometime to make Great People each have their own technique, though it is unlikely they would put in the work for that. Though, if it ever came down to every GA having their own ability, I would still like it to be random in terms of what person you get (IE, you cannot chose Newton over Einstein).

Wow... somebody can just make that... but the people at CiV are too dumb or lazy?

Now now, let's not get to the name calling, it's not nice.

They just didn't come up with the idea at the time they were making Great Artist, and they couldn't reproduce the effect Great Works had in Civ 4 because of the way Culture Expansion Works.

And changing a feature is rather.. tedious, as well as weird, it's like all of a ssuden they decided to go back to squares. It would ruin every strategy. I'm bit surprised that they're changing the health scale to 100 instead of the 10. But that's a minor change, if they changed GA's rules completely. that might be bit hard to getting used too (even if it smarter)

And who knows, maybe they ARE changing Great Artist's ability, and they're just not telling us.

I think a good boost to the Great Merchant improvement would be to allow it to connect luxury resources to your empire (currently all Great People Improvements only connect strategic resources), maybe increasing the happiness from them also?

Maybe something for the great prophet?

Settle on a luxury, you don't recieve the luxury but get happiness and faith instead (perhaps twice the value of what a luxury normally gives)

Well my original suggestion stems from how odd I find it that all Great People improvements connect strategic resources but none do this for luxury resources. We can make a "cultural landmark" that continues to mine Iron/uranium but built on a tile of incense and we no longer have access to this for trade ??

I think a mixture across the Great People would add to their variety, with:
Great artist and Great prophet able to connect only luxuries, not strategic
Great Merchant able to connect both
and Great Engineer, Great Scientist and Great General only able to connect strategic resources

I think all GP improvements should continue to connect strategic resources, because it would really suck to want to pillage a GP improvement because your only source of aluminum popped beneath it.

But I do like the idea that the merchant improvement ALSO connects luxury resources.

I don't either, but if oil, coal, or aluminum happens to pop up under your existing GP improvement, at least you don't have to waste the GP improvement to access it.
