Greatest game of Civ4 ever played

Games that someone played themselves, or in general? Because if it's the latter I don't think anything could compete against the BC spaceship launch game, unless an even more impressive game has been played since then.

I'm lucky if I can get a space ship by 2030.

A combination of taking failgold and BUG/BULL's excess whipping overflow into gold feature to it's absolute logical extreme, diplomatically running circles around the AIs at supersonic speed, and (IIRC) deciding that trivialities like "sustainable economy" shouldn't get in the way of setting out for Alpha Centauri at record speed. IIRC the game was accepted into the HoF, so you should be able to look up it's entry and see stuff like the game's log. I vaguely remember doing so at one point at least.

True, but I'm assuming that he's not the only one reading this topic who'd ask that question, and my (attempt at an) answer to it.

I don't know about the greatest game ever played. The greatest write-up I've ever read was from @drewisfat in the Prepare to Die thread.
https://forums.civfanatics.com/threads/the-ultimate-evil-cooked-maps-prepare-to-die.515022/page-4

I remember reading that one. If that's not the greatest game ever it's in the running. Almost impossibly hard start, a huge comeback, multiple near losses, suspense right to the very end. The high score/early landing games are technically impressive but lack drama. There's a reason why nobody makes war movies about the Anglo-Zanzibar war.

I second this - also the 2nd write up in that thread (Charlie game) was very enjoyable too!

Was this one ever played out? This seems to just be the pre game, or did I miss it?

OK, good point. I remembered reading a thread with a really high score, so I checked the HOF. WastinTime logged a score victory with 10M points, and Kaitzilla logged a score victory for 11M points. I have not found the thread where they discussed the 10M+ games; they both were commenting as they played.

I think I remember requesting a picture showing the early space victory. As far as I know, one has never materialised.
I went to the HOF page, and asked for Deity difficulty, BTS, any speed, all map sizes: the best date was 90AD on a Large map, Marathon speed by WastinTime.

The only games in the HOF to actually post a BC victory date were Marathon speed, both Huge and Large maps, but on Settler difficulty.

Are BC victories possible on Deity at normal speed and standard map size?

For me, it is nearly impossible to beat this game as Greatest Game. I just became fascinated with how WT stretched the game concepts in a way that was almost like folding time and space a la Paul Atreides/Dune. Such as:

1. accelerating AI tech, not the opposite as the other 99.9% of us do in games
2. whipping with complete as in 100% disregard of pop happiness - again going away from conventional wisdom of other humans like myself
3. eschewing cottages completely - again going away from what the rest of us do
4. creating a new concept which he termed wonderbread economy
5. never building a single worker - once again going away from conventional wisdom
6. galley chaining in amazing ways to turbocharge the executive spread

All of which resulted in launching a space ship before Joseph & Mary got married. Absolutely incredible game thread to follow in which I learned a ton about how to play the game in ways I had never thought of. I am not worthy to be in the same room as players like WT for pulling something off like that game
