Greece confirmed - one spot left for a civ

there could always be more than 18 civs, but i don't think they'd have more than 20 for the regular version. and songhai being in there kind of is a dark horse inclusion victory.

I still wonder why they have aztecs AND inca at the cost of more unique civs like spain, persia, vikings, or even north american natives...

Actually, the Aztecs were North American civilization.

how is having both the incas and aztecs any less unique than having rome and greece or france and germany or china and mongols? they're just as different as any of the other combinations

Seeing as Firaxis has said there'll be 18 civs, I'm pretty sure there will NOT be more than 18 civs in Civ V vanilla.

Some people associate North America with modern U.S. and Canada only, no Mexico or Central America.

Yeah I know. You should have seen the long thread around the time of the last expansion of civ3(I think). A guy claimed that the only native americans in the game were the Iroqouis, when in fact the Mayas, Aztecs and Incas were all in the game.

I had the impression that the Danish are more into that part of their history than the Norwegians. Norwegian tourism featured nature more prominent than medieval history, and troll mythology is more prominent than viking legends. Catholic heritage was especially big in Trondheim, the 1000 year-old Nidaros Cathedral being the biggest church in Scandinavia. But that was just an exchange students impression.

Back to topic, when I compare my impression from spanish and nordic mentality, I have a feeling spanish customers would be more interested in playing their own country, but I might be wrong (I guess the regions with separation tendencies are not very fond of Isabella and catholicism, so I'm not sure).

Then again, the Norwegians were very fond of "nerdy" stuff like comics, board games and so on, so they might be a comparably big market for civ.

Just a few assumptions about two of my favourite regions (I've been to both with greet enthusiasm, and could imagine to live in either), not meant to insult anybody!

PS: I gave up on Austria beeing ever acknowledged as the global player it was for centuries, Empire: Total War being the single exception. :king:
EU3 had Austria too! Though I often see it either crushed by myself or Bavaria + Bohemia. Hell. I even saw Bohemia, some Italian city-state and Hungary gang up on Austria, leaving it with nothing but Wien once. :<

On the Viking stuff - I do not know about Norway, but the Norwegians I know really dig the Viking culture. It may be because we are almost cult-like. It is about the one thing we can agree upon in Scandinavia: Vikings are :):):):)ing badass.

Personally I almost always play as Vikings. Though I do of course take my time to try out other Civs too. Vikings are simply my main Civ :D

because they have to leave some popular civs to EPs as well. it will be really sad to have 18 leaders instead of 52.

i am also sure the EPs will have more than only new civs/leaders.

If they do put a native American civ in, they better not lump them all into "native America".

Well, Songhai is already confirmed as one of the 17. Persia is likely to be the 18th Civ.

Songhai? thats pretty tight. id be cool to see more African Civs, since there isnt a whole lot we know about Africas Past

I really like how in civ4 they had multiple leaders you could choose from for one particular civ

BTW guys let me admit one thing. which civs will be in the game etc are just superficial issues, IMO.
knowing that we will have multi flavors is more important. i really don't care which civ will get which flavor or which civs will be IN. anyway, i will play most of them. we already know 13-15 of nations are always IN the game and the rest 3-5 changes per each game only. so which nations those 3-5 will be, will have a small effect on gameplay.

so there is a more important issue and firaxis really fools us all :) why? most posters already started dreaming on expansion packs. and discussing what extra features/civs would come with EPs.

i really would like to have a civ6 in 2012 instead of an EP of civ5. we had so long gap between civ4 and civ5.

A 5 year gap is about perfect between Civ games. Release the game plus one or two expansions and play it for a few years.

CiVIlization for 2015. :D

then it will be a legacy from me to my son :old:
ok, i'm just exaggurating. i'm only 31 and i have no son yet

"My son, ask for thyself another Kingdom, for that which I leave is too small for thee"
opening lyrics from Alexander The Great - IRON MAIDEN

Considering that most of the other civs span several hundreds if not thousands of years into the past, I still don't see why the American civilization has to be in every version of Civilization - apart from the obvious influence on the game's market. The Americans have been on their continent for only a few hundred years and before that they were Europeans, well, or Africans, Asians, etc.

I always rationalized that, well, the American civilization must include the Native Americans too, but when the first Native American civ appeared in Civ that logic went through the window...

Sure, USA is the only superpower (until the Chinese and the Indians get their economy together at least) at the moment, but considering how ancient some of these civilizations are, a few hundred years of independence and a few decades of hegemony doesn't really create a "civ" in my eyes.

Mind you, I'm not anti-American or anything, but to me the Americans stand out like a cyborg in the midst of an army of spearmen. That's how I've always felt since Civ I, and I apologize if I upset anybody with my views.

Ok, I think it's time for me to duck from all the incinerators, because I can hear the flames a-brewing.
