Greeks or Romans?

I've only played the Romans so far, and enjoy them a great deal.
Quite frankly, it's just a matter of style and taste. If you don't like war, the Greeks are better- they're Scientific and their excellent defense means a better chance of early survival. By building Libraries instead of Temples, you can quickly win the culture war and maybe even assimilate part of an opponent. The only disadvantage is not being able to really choose when you get your GA; if someone else attacks you early, you'll get your GA early when your Hoplite fends off an attacker.
On the other hand, if grinding enemies under your heels appeals to you, then the Romans are better. They're Militaristic, and the Legion is great against any defender until you get into Gunpowder. The only disadvantage is the need for Iron; it seems like half the time I play the Romans, I'm in an area that is Iron-free. But if you *do* get Iron, you can cut a swath through *any* opponent, especially those pathetic Egyptians.

I'd have to lean havily toward the Romans at higher difficulty levels. Three reasons:
1) Hoplite and Legionnaire both cost 1 citizen to hurry. At that stage in the game, most all of your military should be hurried out, and the Legionnaire is clearly superior for the price.
2) You have to be very very militaristic throughout the game. You get noticeably more Great Leaders when you're militaristic.
3) Scientific is all but useless at the higher difficulties. You don't research techs--you broker them. Research should stay down at 0% until after you've established a clear scientific dominance over everybody else. So you don't even need Libraries/Universities for a long time. By the time you do, you're so filthy rich from brokering you can just hurry the Libraries out for gold, scientific or no scientific.
Too bad the GOTM is Greeks. Bleh. I guess that means earlier Libraries for the culture and you get to broker the free techs you get. Yay.

After having it handed to me by the Romans in the GOTM, I'd lean towards the romans. I won't get into details since that could be a spoiler, but suffice to say I found that the Hoplite wasn't all that it was cracked up to be.
