Just wanted to introduce myself as a fellow frustrated Mac Civ player. I just found/joined these forums and appreciate the bone they have thrown us by giving us a place to vent all our frustrations. I'm sure the PC players find this forum very entertaining.
I have been running the 1.29 beta patch with OS 9.2 pretty sucessfully, every once and a while it will crash but I look at it as a trade off. I'll take a crash here and there just for the fortify and wake all modification. I would recomend the patch to anyone who is considering it, I don't use the map editor however, and from what I've read that seems to be where alot of the problems come into play.
I was wondering how well the GOTM plays on the mac and would love some feedback...

I've have a question that may be taboo in these forums but I can't seem to get this info from anywhere. If anyone has Sim City 4 for the mac could you please tell me if you can set your disasters. In-other-words can you turn on/off the disasters individually/customize the disasters?

Welcome. I doubt if many Windows players even find this forum, we certainly don't hear any off-stage chuckles from them.

GOTM plays just fine on the Mac once you get it set up. It's all I play, in gotm and sgotm forms. You'll have a little fun getting it running in OS 9 though, because you need some game mods. They can be installed using my OS X gotm installers, BUT .. I confess :( I haven't produced any installers that will run in the older Mac OS. I do have some suggestions, though, if you really can't bear to part with OS 9 (why? ):

1. I produced a zip file that includes all the files you need to get to gotm23 level. This is designed for use with my drag and drop installer (OS X only), but you could use it for a manual installation. You would have to download and unzip the file and then move or copy all the contents into the right places in a copy of your Civilization III folder. I recommend doing it to a copy because (a) you can choose whether to run the gotm mod version or the standard one just by launching the appropriate application file, and (b) you can easily start again if you get lost or find it doesn't work. The folders in the zip file all have counterparts in the application, so, for example, you copy anything in the unzipped folder/Art/ into Civilization III/Art/

2. Step 1 sets you up to play gotm16 - gotm23 (games earlier than 21 need a couple of files swapped), but you still need two more updates to get to gotm 25 and the current build state required for recent gotms. If you are really serious I can provide an equivalent zip file to update from gotm23 to gotm25, so please let me know. Alternatively there are separate file sets for gotm24 and gotm25 around these parts somewhere, but I'd have to send out a search party as it's so long since anyone needed them.

Welcome t. Master rogue! :)

I'm sure the GOTM mod files will work fine for you; however, I don't believe the installers created by AlanH will. For some reason, I'm thinking they work for OSX only. I could be wrong.
