Groundwork for GOP implosion already being laid

After 2004 there was talk about the demise of the Democratic Party. That it was washed up and might as well chuck in the towel. It obviously did not happen. Neither of the two major parties are going anywhere.

Did you read the article?

The GOP will absolutely never stop the gaybashing, no matter what it costs them. They literally cannot.

Yeah this is all hogwash...

Carter didn't kill democrats and Bush didn't kill the republican party...just made it seem idiotic at best...

Yes I read it and all I can say is that they are wrong. For one thing I am confident the Antichrist will arise out of Europe, specifically out of the geographic area of the old Roman Empire. There is really no way imho to interpret Revelation that suggests he will arise out of America.

I just get tired of the God's Own Party business.

I'm tired of being told that God votes a certain way.

I'd love to see the Libertarian or Constitution Party (In order of preference) replace it, but alas, I don't think big government conservatism is going anywhere anytime soon.

USA#1! is more important to too many people than actually being free. That's the problem.

It is not that he votes a certain way. God always gets the vote right, even if it is not the vote those who follow him think it to be. That is the biggest issue I have, that people cannot force God into the public square. Obama was God's choice and there is a reason behind that choice, that no human can fathom. So as long as you complain about it, I will keep saying that if the christian right get's their way it will be worse than if an athiest got their way historically speaking.

Spoiler :
Oh, come on! It was served on a silver platter! What did you expect me to do? I'm only human!

I will say it will be harder for the republicans to win as minorities grow in number if they keep catering to the so called "Far Christian Right". Racism and sexism just isn't going to cut it these days.

In some sort of masochistic way, I hope the GOP stay existing at least until they start saying that they supported gay marriage all the long and that the Democrats were the real homophobes.

It depends on which ideology wins out in the Republican party. You have the compassionate conservatives then you have the radical Randian set that wants to do away with any sort of social safety net. I don't think any one issue will destroy their party, but inevitable things that goes against their rigid ideology are definitely going to be a problem. Take global warming for instance. It's inevitable that it going to become a big issue since we've see the devastation that it causes. If they stick to their "free market" anything goes ideology they are screwed politically except in some backwards holdout places.

As they descend into the madness of shifting demographics I think the theocrats will be at the helm, driving the ship straight into oblivion.

Well as Barry Goldwater once said; "Mark my word, if and when these preachers get control of the [Republican] party, and they're sure trying to do so, it's going to be a terrible damn problem. Frankly, these people frighten me. Politics and governing demand compromise. But these Christians believe they are acting in the name of God, so they can't and won't compromise. I know, I've tried to deal with them."

The would-be theocrats are in a bubbling, impotent rage now. Anything could happen.

Santorum Bachmann 2016. I called it first.

Just an FYI btw, but the GOP still has more governors than the democrats, and controls more state legislatures than the democrats.

Sure. No doubt about that.

I still think we'll get the crazy American Taliban ticket in 2016, and they'll lose.

Okay, it's official. The GOP will be a near-powerless rump party within my lifetime.

Here's my evidence.

People thought the same thing just after 1900 when the party was heavily divided between Taft and Roosevelt as a third party candidate. Guess what? They were wrong then too.
