Groundwork for GOP implosion already being laid

Democrats will absolutely never stop being racist segregationi... wait...

Hey man, if they want to become a different party and just keep the shingle out front then sign me up.

If an economically moderate, militarily prudent, socially secular party emerges they can probably count on my vote for life. I don't care if that party's logo is a giant cross at that point.

Until then, I will vote for whoever causes the most indigestion at the 700 club.

This, of course, is what will eventually happen, given time. As it has happened more than once in the past. Whether the results will be to your liking is, of course, unpredictable.

(The US political system is pretty heavily resistant towards changing away from a two-party model, with occasional third parties and independents that never amount to anything more than election spoilers on the national level. However this means that each of the two parties needs to span a quite wide range of interests and the makeup of these is subject to change over time.)

Yes I read it and all I can say is that they are wrong. For one thing I am confident the Antichrist will arise out of Europe, specifically out of the geographic area of the old Roman Empire.

Nah, I don't buy it. Beaten dogs bark, as the saying goes. These are the people who are going to be irrelevant when the GOP does move on into the future so they're trying to be loud and important while they still can.

I will say it will be harder for the republicans to win as minorities grow in number if they keep catering to the so called "Far Christian Right". Racism and sexism just isn't going to cut it these days.

Christianity and right wing politics=/=racist. I'm almost as far right as it gets on this website (a few are farther), and I don't even believe in race, because there is only one race: the human race.

Everyone note that this is the default go-to argument by those that want to claim that non-whites are the Real Racists.

Race is a social construct. Biologically, there are not enough differences to say that we are fundamentally different. So this kind of fingers-in-ears attitude merely cements the social order in which whites get to claim they are the default state of humanity.

Well, America arose out of Europe - just sayin'

That's one aspect; for a species as widespread as we are, we have very little genetic variation (you can find more genetic variation within one troop of chimps than in all of Homo sapiens). The other thing that makes "race" a pretty useless biological concept for humans is that what genetic variation we do have is way too fuzzy to allow for any kind of neat categorization.

In a social context, though, social constructs are as real as anything, of course, since they affect how people treat each other. Obviously they are subject to change over time; Irish didn't use to count as "white", never mind Italians and other Mediterranean peoples, for instance.

The GOP isn't going anywhere. It will probably have to shave off its extreme right that has too much influence these days and friendly up with Latinos. Giuliani said on Anderson Cooper a few days ago that he would have ran for president but the far right made that impossible. We'll see this become more conscious.

I'm confused:confused:.

Race does exist. Just in a purely social sense. It emphatically doesn't exist in a biological sense. Hell, I mean we went to war over it so there's really no sense in saying it isn't a Thing. To deny race exists is just as ridiculous as saying africans and arians are separate species.

But only in red states. Not in the real America. :mischief:

Being in "Real America" (NYS:lol:) sucks. Liberals do get some things more right than conservatives but most of those issues are foreign policy related and so it doesn't matter which state I live in, red states can still screw those up for me as well:p

In all seriousness, what about Purple States like Florida, Virginia, and Colorado? What about Libertarian New Hampshire? Are they in "Real America"? Is it only consistent blue states that are, or only consistent Republican strongholds that are not?

I think he was parroting the insufferable, condescending "real America" tripe spewed by the Palinistas.

Basically, red staters always swaggered and called themselves the "silent majority," implying that team blue was uppity and dealing from a weaker position. I was taunted countless times by pictures of people at Phuckabee's Chick-fil-A bashapalooza with captions like "2012 preview" and "we're taking our country back."

Now the Republicans have, what, one popular vote victory in the last 6 presidential elections? I won't be the least bit surprised if we're in the 2nd quarter of a 16-year Democratic hot streak right now.

I'll paraphrase the crude liberal response that, I think, characterizes the coming era: "No, you may not have your country back. Don't worry, though, you're welcome to stay." :)

At least Palin had actual executive experience that didn't involve bombing people:p

That and she actually spoke highly of Ron Paul. That gives me something of a soft spot for her even if I don't agree with her very often and couldn't really vote for her:)

That had nothing to do with gay marriage and everything to do with Cathy's freedom of speech. I did care about gay marriage a little more than I do now back then but I still wasn't overly obsessed with it. But I was, and still would be, absolutely ticked off that Boston tried to stifle his freedom of expression.

Had I lived in the South I would have gone to Chick-Fila that day.

I'd be somewhat surprised, but you might be right.

You have something of a habit of extremism though. You went from "Romney is going to win, then its going to be Santorum-Akin and the hardcore theocrats are going to win" to "You guys are all going to fail."

Some liberal posters, they swing from pessimist to optimist so easy:p

I don't want the "Conservative country" back, I want liberty and an end to the global empire. Democrats aren't exactly helping with that so I can't support them anymore than I can support the elephant warmongering tradition dating back to Lincoln :smug:

Now the Republicans have, what, one popular vote victory in the last 6 presidential elections?

Let's break that down. Of the last six Presidential elections, four were won by Democrats and two were won by Republicans. Of the two won by Republicans, once Bush received over 50% of the vote and once he did not. Bill Clinton never received 50% of the vote in any Presidential election he ever ran in, lowest being 42%. Obama won with over 50% both times. By the way, why are you stopping at six? Is that because it makes your case sound better? Let's go back and count the last nine elections instead, eh?

Wait, nevermind, forget all of that because the popular vote doesn't mean jack anyway. EC votes is all that matters and all that should matter. Mandate? Yeah, oath of office is the mandate.
