Hillary's only shooting herself in the foot, like Mrs Gore did with the "explicit lyrics" thing in the 80s. I think the whole incident will only make the game sell more.
cierdan said:BTW, some people in this thread are wrong on the facts about toleration of violence against police or whatever. In some places in America they've made laws making games that have violence against police illegal or something like that, or restricting the sale of those violent games to minors. Also the "V chip" has the name "V" because V stands for Violence. Also, a lot of movies have been criticized because of their excessive or gratuitous violence: Natural Born Killers, Kill Bill, and I think maybe a movie called True Romance or something.
you might be wrong here. In Germany/Switzerland the game's been rated 18+ from the beginning, and it's selling like crazy. They might make a bit less money due to the new rating in the US, but I really doubt that they'll lose any money.puglover said:I have to say, I'm glad to see them lose a fortune.
You know Take-Two is also publishing Civilzation and Pirates! now. It might not be such a good thing that they lose money.puglover said:I have to say, I'm glad to see them lose a fortune.
Agreed, but I can't see them taking a big loss after such brisk sales and this newfound blitz of free advertising.vbraun said:You know Take-Two is also publishing Civilzation and Pirates! now. It might not be such a good thing that they lose money.
That's funny - I'm disturbed that she's advocating spending $90 million+ of taxpayer money on a topic she's clearly clueless about. What "store shelf" did hot coffee appear on again? If the sexual content required hot coffee, how is her statement not a complete and blatant lie or at best an apparently purposeful misrepresentation?Sen. Hilary Rodham Clinton, D-New York, applauded the change but said she was disturbed the sexual content appeared on store shelves in the first place.
What's up with all these democrats coming out against free artistic expression? Where's the ACLU when you need them?Rep. Joe Baca, D-Calif., said this week the video game industry needs a good dose of government oversight
Yeah you're right; it's just that it's tough enough to keep up with politicians' b.s. when they stay on their own side of the aisle. All this false posturing makes things too confusing...farting bob said:They are trying to get right wing voters who do not like bush's reign of terror IMO. Hopefully once the demiocrats get into power, they'll drop the right wing views like hilary's on GTA.

KaeptnOvi said:so tell me, how many shooters (where the prime goal is to kill) have a rating of AO? I'd bet that most don't....
that may well be, but so far I've never heard any of those moralists cry out because Doom 3 is only rated Mature....yet if you add a silly sex-scene into a game it suddenly becomes very wrong. Sex BAAAAAAAAADDD I'm not comparing sex to violence, I'm merely trying to compare the effect they have on 17yo guys. Do you really think that being exposed to sex has a detrimental effect on a 17yo's psyche?cierdan said:Those ratings are self-made by the gaming industry. They are not made by the government or an independent consumer group or anything like that. The gaming industry hires people to give input and then make a rating based on that input -- the "high council" that has the final decision is made up of people like executives of gaming companies. So using what games have the AO rating and what don't is utterly irrelevant since that is just a function of greedy economic interests of the gaming industry as opposed to a morals based response from society. Sex and violence are apples and oranges anyway and those who make silly arguments comparing the two and who have made "apples and oranges" rebuttals in the past ought to be 200% ashamed of themselves
Wow. You know, if there WAS a hell, pushing for a ban on filth would not be the way to get to it.Tank_Guy#3 said:Hilary will burn in hell for a long time for this, not that it matters to me, I'm 18 .
GTA 1 and I'm pretty sure 2 as well had loads of swearing and cursing and vulgar language. I also remember, though less explicitly and darkly so, the game was more violent.plarq said:While I'm a big GTA fan, personally I hate those sex scenes and excessive rendering of violence for non game-playing reasons. The current rating system cannot stop the popular favor in violence.
From Liberty City to Vice City and finally in San Andreas, violence, nudity and vulgar explode.I'm very sad to see the game sliding into a a mud of those things, and I have to play it obsessively for its numerous improvements in game-playing.Never got a chance to mod out sex and beheading and chainsawing(disgusting,IMO).
