I've seen those books. Never read one though. That particular guy looks like he would be a 1SG in the US Army with some German equipment. In that book, the USA sided with Germany and the CSA sided with the Allies. If I remember correctly, the CSA got the crap kicked out of it. I believe that the US could very well be using German equipment and uniforms if the CSA were able to damage the USA's infastructure.

If I remember correctly when the US picked out its first helmet it rejected a style similar to the German only because it would resemble the enemy's in combat - hence it would have likely adopted the German design itself if it was actually allied to Germany :)

Not to mention that the modern kevlar combat helmet has a shape that is strikingly similar to the German 1936 Wehrmacht helmet.

So what are you guys talking about?
There were some books of alternative history, what ifs, I remember reading one with a "Germans won the war" theme, "Thor vs Captain America" or something was the English title, is that what this is about?

Cool units.

This is about Harry Turtledove's series of books, describing an alternate timeline of "what if the CSA won the Civil War?".

Like most alternative history books it takes one significant event and uses that to change the timeline. In HS Turtledoves case it is a Confederates success at Gettysburg leading to the English / French recognizing the CSA and hence their becoming close allies. Very good books I would recommend them starting with How Few Remain.
Wyrm they look very interesting and detailed. One little thing though the US uniform is described as grey green.

Antietam. I think it was the battle of Antietam. In Turtledove's book, the Confederacy achieved a decisive victory and subsequently pushed on to Philadelphia, which is when the CSA get formal recognition from France and Great Britain.

I was mistaken. Lee forces McClellan into battle on the banks of the Susquehanna River in Pennsylvania and destroys the Army of the Potomac in the Battle of Camp Hill on October 1. Lee goes on to capture Philadelphia, earning the Confederate States of America diplomatic recognition from both Great Britain and France, thus winning the war. I guess I have read to many books on alternate history that hinge the war between the states on Gettysburg.

Timeline-191 referring to Lee's Order number 191 before the battle of Antietam.

I loved the books up until the Freedom/Nazi Party and GWII. Turtledove just copied the East Front and substituted the US for the Soviets and the Confederates for the Germans. Pittsburgh as Stalingrad???

Somebody did a scenario a couple of years back. It was global scale and used the stadard units. It was OK. 'd love to see on with some original units and focused on North America only.

Wyrmshadow, what are the size u gone use? Can we compare the unit size with the units (the foot soldiers) from NavyDawg or will you come up with an own size?
