Guide to 5CC

Thank you so much for the idea of the 5CC challenge in Conquests.

This is my first posting.

I played a Chieftain game as the peaceful Persians throughout most of the game until I was deemed a major threat towards the end of the game where everyone turned on me except for the Arabs - surprisingly.

I played as Despotism and then Democracy (even during times of war). And I had my science rate at 90 or 100% most of the game.

I know that I was pulling 500+ from Persopolis in tech at 100% tech rate.

I was able to win at 5CC in the 1700s by the 20K cultural victory or Space Race. I held off on the 10th part for the 20K cultural victory. I know that I would receive the same "measly" score either way. I reloaded to test that out.

I did not experience war weariness during times of war. Basically, I was only trying to protect my motherland and my colonies.

I did use barricades / fortresses and I had an amazing airforce - around 50 or so bombers just in one city and a fighter to check out any moving forces towards me. I was able to pick off large (huge) armies before they would reach me. Also, I would have my bombers destroy any and all improvements (roads) between me and my enemies (which was basically everybody). The bombers had such great range that I was able to destoy certain cities and send in one unit to capture a town and raze it.

For MPPs, everybody seemed to have one, and I noticed that if a country attacked me, I had every right to attack their units. The only thing that disappointed me was that I was surprised to find out that when I attacked their cities, everybody joined in on the war.

Any towns that I did receive for culture were taken and then abandoned the same turn.

In this game, I had 5 Great Scientific Leaders which helped in the Wonder production. I believe that I ended up with 17 wonders in Persepolis.

The game took about 10 hours. The 100 year war or maybe it was longer probably took up most of the time.

I should probably right a story - cuz it was outta control.

I guess I will leave some tips - research Iron working as soon as possible - so that you can have one of your cities placed near it and then horseback riding so that you can eventually have knights.

I had my first four cities and fought for the 5th; I'm not making a variation of this 5CC; I had to have 5 locations and the comps were expanding by me : the Arabs, Sumerians, Babylonians, etc.

sorry for the rambling

I guess the main thing was that I had 5 cities that i was able to micromanage fairly easily and still somehow pull in enough tech, protect my cities, produce a lot of culture, etc.

I think that I will try it again at 5CC for a faster time or maybe at Warlord - I know that it should be much tougher at warlord - I dread thinking about it.

Great Post! I am a Mac player, so this could get interesting. I will post a save in a while for those of you who can read it.

Tip of the Day for Mac file uploads:

If you use Safari to attach your save to a post, any PC player should be able to read it. Don't use Internet Explorer unless you make some subtle changes to its preferences, as it defaults to sending in MacBinary format, and PC users won't have any way to extract your save from it.

Oh, thanks. How about Firefox as that is what I use? I could download Safari again though.

I imagine Firefox will be OK, though I haven't tried it for uploads - looks too much like a PC application to me :D. The problem is Exploder evolved from the legacy world of Mac OS 9 where MacBinary was needed to preserve the two-fork file structure, and they don't seem to know how to let it go..

I can understand that. I hate Exploder, hate it. I have found that Safari has issues on certain webpages and I can't use it on my blog for some reason. Therefore, I went with Firefox and have had no issues whatsoever. Thank you again for your help.

I think this still gets read so... this got written for Vanilla, I believe. In conquests many wonders that become old enough (1000 years for the first time) can become tourist attractions. So, if you're playing a 5CC research-based game, you probably want as many ancient wonders as you can snag.
