Guns in games

Are you kidding? People do it all the time, what makes you any different?
 
Snipers with tracers is like stuffing Jenny Craig/Weightwatchers meals with double-stuff Oreos.

I agree with most of the OP. I recommend Rainbow Six part 3 (Raven Shield, Athena somethung) as a temporary solution. I'm not to sure that it has a decent balistics model though. OFP had decent modelling as well.

I wish I could comment on ArmA but that game was like uber-demanding on resources.

Okay so the last post where the topic left off.

Guns in games, yeah, they need fixes.

There are games where the guns don't need to be realistic, like TF2, side scrollers, console-only FPS games dumbed down for the masses, etc.

But I would still kill for a game that had as realistic as they can make them guns, as I feel that gun realism won't hurt gameplay unlikes compeltely realistic charactor stuff (like breathing, excretions, proper nutrition).
 
So how about a Painkiller type game with uber mechanics and physics realism, but otherwise minimal tactical problem solving?

I havn't played Painkiller so I don't entirely know what it is like. Some tactical problem solving would be nice, albeit mostly in that it's a choice between doing something creatively and having an effect if you want (especially useful after you've played the game through once or twice and want to do something dif than expending tonnes of explosives).
 
Basically I was proposing a Doom-esque game where there's very little tactical logic (e.g. can't confuse it with Rainbow Six, Ghost Recon, etc...) but there's a lot of physics and gun realism.
 
Could be fun, but too much realism would be a bit out of place in a game like Doom where the main aim to blast as many demons as possible. ;)

What I'd like to see is games like Call of Duty 4 or Far Cry 2, which are somewhat realistic to begin with, just go a little bit further in the realism of their guns. Not because I'm some realism nut (I've played a heck of alot of TF2), but becuase I think it would add to the immersion and make the gameplay more interesting and fun.
 
Realism just makes a game boring, that's why we play them in the first place, to get away from realism. Realism sounds fun from he outside, but then you realize that if a game is just plain old fun, you wont care about realism one bit. The only game Ive ever played that came remotely close to realism anyway was Operation Flashpoint........other than that none of them even come close.
 
OPF was a good game. Nothing like escaping from a russian detention camp by nicking their heli, flying 5 kms east, getting shot down, jumping out at the last moment, then walking 2 more kms evading russian patrols in forests and finally reaching a friendly base all while badly wounded and limping. Most exhilarating mission ever.

O fo sho, it was ok per se, but I mean, I would rather have more craziness in general, its fun the first time, until you realize that your character moves really slow, and there's nothing particularly interesting to do while traversing the countryside with your bleak jaded generic soldier archtype.
