I guess it makes sense... I was so torn between keeping the CS and liberating it. Now I have liberated it I am regretting it. Still nice to know. ... would you have kept it?
What the...how did that CS acquire a wonder? Did someone conquer it, build a wonder and then see it liberated by someone else? I have NEVER seen a wonder in a CS in Civ. Just weird.

Most likely. In my last game Australia conquered Buenos Aires and almost finished Petra (for a measely 3 desert spaces). Meanwhile I had a City completely surrounded by desert even in the third ring so I wasn't going to let that stand.
Thankfully conquering and liberating an occupied CS actually reduces your warmonger status so my war of aggression to destroy Petra (before it could be completed) was viewed favorably around the world! Oddly even John Curtin complimented my liberation of Buenos Aires and became friendly towards me thanks to his agenda... despite the fact that he was the one oppressing the City State in the first place!
I haven't seen a CS with a wonder before! I'm not surprised you don't get any wonder bonus from it if you're Suzerain, but the game handles liberated/recaptured cities funky if it's an original capitol or a CS.

I don't know if they've patched it or not, but I remember an earlier game, I had an AI capture a CS, build the Oracle there, and then when I captured it, I didn't like the city location so I razed the city. However, I could then build the Oracle in another city. Dunno if that's still the case, but would be a cool way to potentially "move" a wonder if I have a better Petra spot, for example, or to get the build bonus for a wonder (ie. Big Ben doubling cash).
I still remember stumbling across a Barbarian city in cIV that had a wonder.
In fact, they had a little mini Empire after whiping out a Civ. Lol.
I wish that Barbs could still capture cities. *Sigh*
At least they are better than the emasculated barbs of Civilization 5, anyway.
As for City States, it would be nice if they didn’t clutter up the map with so many units, yeah. I wish they did have a unique wonder for each city state that they could build. Sort of like national wonders used to be.
I dunno, I love me some Pyramids, but I also love me some Zanzibar luxuries. That they also have available nitre is a consideration, but if you've already got plenty then it really doesn't matter.
Ultimately I think I would have liberated them also.
