Hags for the Calabim?

Vampires in FfH should be very arrogant and narcissistic about their looks. The Brujah however are vampires that have gone feral, and wouldn't care about their looks nearly so much. It would make sense for them to be ugly. Heavy magic users would tend to be of the upper class and most civilized of the Calabim, so I'd suspect then to be more beautiful than most (although perhaps only though shadow magic illusions).

I'd support making Mobius witches look more like hags, but I'd rather they keep their current name and lore.
Oh god, this just reminds me of Losha Valas. If there's one single Calabim unit that is already unique, but I still want to replace, it's her. Running around with that 'hump' on her back, looking like some degenerated, inbred freakish version of a vampire.

I'm pretty sure that art is just a modified version of a normal Civ IV spy. The art team has gotten a lot better since they made that. I'll see if we can get a new one.

:) that was one of Rolands early models... you have to ask him if he´s ok with me changing it ;)

I'm not sure what model she's based off of, but she animates based on the the Maceman, which is hillarious considering she has a dagger. It looks like she's just swinging the thing like she can barely lift it. IIRC, she's got the chain and strike sound a maceman does too 0_o

IMO Not sure if ugly would be good for the calabim seeing that they are supposed to be the epitome of the body sphere of magic...
I was thinking the exact same thing. The only reason a vampire should look ugly is if function is more important than form. A magic user does not need to look like a beast. I am kind of surprised the intended visual path for the recon line is to look hideous (although I do love the Whitewolf Nosferatu).

Here is what Kael posted in our team forum about calabim reconline:

i was thinking the calabim hunter line could feature fat units, it fits well with their sphere and would look cool, we may even be able to reuse the model for some fat balseraphs if the model can be made

And I like the idea. so... expect some ugly stuff :)

It's a bit unintuitive that recon units (which should be fast and flexible) are fat... However if you consider their main task (hunting) it's quite appropriate since they eat more :).

hmm, not liking the idea of fat recon units. That guy looks like he should be a Clan Champion UU or somesuch.

I don;t use the recon line with Calabim much anyways, but this will jsut give me another reason to not do so.

Obese hunters and scouts? Noooooooooo.......! :run:

Pffft, Nosferatu are so last century. Tremere, all the way. :pat:

Even though I'd really prefer a Nosferatu-like scout line. But since they don't start with Vampire, I'm not sure how much sense it'd make to make non-vamp Calabim units vampire-like.

Gangrel would make better scouts/rangers/beastmasters. Wow its been a LONG time since I played VtM

As I understand it, the Calabim aren't a nation of vampires as much as a nation of humans ruled by vampires. So unless they get new unique units the Vampire, Vampire Lord and Brujah are going to be their only vampires with the rest of their units being humans.

Also I can't understand the discussion about which vampire types to include because AFAIK there doesn't exist any clans/families/other vampire types than the one already included which isn't similar to any others in Erebus.

And what about colourful and bright blaspheraphs hunters? Hm?
Actually I like this concept. Remember, there are two types of predators. The First seeks and kills. The second waits and kills.

Well aren't the balseraphs supposed to be mockery of all things that makes sense. "Camouflage? What in Agares' name is that? And how is it relevant to recon?"

Didn't think I would like it, but seeing that picture... I kind do like the idea. Its unique. That, and it reminds me of a certain horse thief.

I..am intrigued. It's certainly very different visually to anything any other civ might put in the field.

Of course the Calabim Arcane, Archery, Cavalry & Recon lines don't start out as vampires, so how that's going to be reflected in their design should be interesting.

Yeah, if we want to talk in VtM terms, Gangrels are definately the way to go. But Gangrel doesn't really look much different from ordinary vampires or humans, and definately not ugly by default. :)

The Balseraphs are insane. And it's not like bright colors makes you a bad scout. It might even keep bears away from you, sending them the signal that you're poisonous. Which, given the Balseraph tastes, probably isn't that far off. :p

And sure, hunters can hunt in a manner of ways. But I just can't see Fatty 'Fat Paulie' McFat running through the forests, leaping over stream and stone, charting territories´.

Do you remenber their Clan Weakness? They gain an animal feature, or a difformity every time they endure a frenzy... They don't start different from humans, but it will change very fast.

I think of the Recon line more like the guys in the cities, finding new slaves and "meat" for the aristocracy, more hunter in the sense of slave drivers than really boy scouts. Fitting the calabim society in a way...
