The Halftrack

This unit is based on the american halftrack of ww2 its a unit I have had on my hard drive for some time and Bobisback ask me to finish it. So here it is.

This unit has no attack as I always felt it should be voneralble to attack if not escorted. I have several units that need other units to move them. However if you want the AI to use this at all give it the explore flag and thats what they will use it for since the AI cant use land transports. Give it 0 in both attack and defence and 2-3 for movement.

Im not sure what more to say so here it is:

How I believe you can make land units transport other units:

1. Make it a air unit.
2. Make it wheeled
3. Make Coast unwheeled territory
4. Give the unit transport ability

Possible bugs: It cannot defend it selves, or maybe you cant make air units wheeled.

But it should work in theory.

Nice unit BTW:)

He speaks the truth ;) just make sure to specify transport capacity as well.

Another way would be to flag it as Army. That's what I did with my Division/Corps/Army units in my ACW scenario, and the AI seems to use those as intended.

Then it will have no attack/defense anyways. :) Win-win situation.

Of course, then you wouldn't be able to unload, unless you flagged it as such.

Thats very interesting I have never tried that. Can you put them on sea transports if it has the unload ability?

Nice Unit, can be a pionier or a settler Unit!

I also have mobile bunkers so this unit acts as my army engineer.

Umm Procifica I tried that army flag and the AI strategy for it in a quick test game but you cant build them. How do you make them build able?

It's funny too see how much tricks some people can imagine to reach a goal. This is a pretty good idea to make ground transports possible. But is the AI going to use it as well ?

In fact, we're looking for a solution for ground transports for such a long time, I'm still hoping Firaxis will finally add a "Ground Transport" flag ! I shouldn't be that hard to do !

I'll probably use this as the Run animation for a type of early mechanized infantry unit. When the unit is in default or attacking you'll see the infantry animation, but when it moves you'll see the half-track animation. The unit will have a move rate of 2 or 3.

I like Yoda Power's idea for making a land transport unit, but will the AI use it as intended? Also, I assume you need to make sure it isn't flagged as immobile, as well.

Hunter thanks.:yeah: Hunter you have made my day. It's awsome.

remember to build army units you need a small wonder in that city that is flagged as "build army"

From my tests even flagging it as unload doesnt seem to work. :( Only way i found to let units leave was to select a unit within the army and use airlift away to another city. :)

has anyone tried my idea?

I did indeed however I could find no way to make coast a no wheeled area. So the truck could move over water. However I will give it anouther try tonight. :)

look under terrain, then coast.

Ok I found the check box you were talking about. I had been looking in the Civ editor but it is only in the PTW one. anyway I tried it and the unit just went over the terrain so I guess that when you make it an air unit it overrides the ground unit flags.
