HAM-01: The Hanseatic League

I think if Toku is friendly with Genghis then he will vote for us. AIs base their vote on both parties of an alliance, right?

I really don't know but we'll find out with UN which can be built in a couple of turns. I workshopped up Madrid so it's good for it as our other production city is building IWorks.

Also he does have a huge army. (lots of cavalry) since we can see what he has now.

I agree with helping Saladin too and go after Cathy with Panzers. Getting Toku involved with that is a good idea Soooo and we could get a UN victory that way.

BTW Sooooo you are UP...

Just Lurking

Since quitting after the 1820 save I've been playing a solo game in between other SGs, different map, same leader, same parameters (medieval, large lakes). Currently up to 1585; just got lib/economics slingshot. If there's any interest I'll post again when I get to 1800.

@pigswill: sure, I'm interested. I tried this a couple times right before/around having started this SG and I'm curious to see how you do. I'm particularly interested in what you think about having all the great merchants... what is the overall effect on your economy and the types of buildings you build?

@sooooo: sure, take your time. Out of curiosity, what do you teach and to whom?

@hamtastic: I try to teach chemistry to undergraduate students

I invite a few leaders of rival corporations into our boardroom. Tokugawa gets told to stop trading with that nasty russian for military tradition, and also a gift of steam power for a nice boost in relations to pleased.

Genhis and Izzy come in next and we agree to be friends from now on. No point having to run 30% culture for an iceball.

Catherine agrees to stop being so mean to that nice Arabian in return for Radio.

Research to 0%, then we start the UN in Madrid as advised. I stopped building the statue of liberty because I don't think it will have enough of an effect for the hammer cost. Research onto Ass. Line (only 3 turns!). Once that tech finished, we started industrialism but I forgot to connect our oil :smoke:. Next player please correct this!

Once genghis and ourselves had upgraded enough troops to infantry, we declared war on Washington. I invited Toku to stop picking on Izzy and transfer his attentions to Washington. We captured Miami and Seattle. We finished Broadway too and I built a settler for a spot east of spain to get sheep and wheat. He can settle next turn.

UN is due in 9 turns, industrialism in 3. Next tech should be flight, because with radio we can build bombers straight away.

For some reason only 1 of my screenshots took - the capture of Miami.

Save is here.

This is my got it. I suppose I'll continue whomping good ol' washington into the ground.

@Greyfox: yeah, it is interesting. I don't think we would have predicted this a while ago, particularly our ease in doing so. Then again, I have a feeling that, logically, the human player should be less handicapped relative to the AI on higher levels with later start times. So since the AI hasn't had a chance to use the bonus for another 100 turns or so, it doens't exist. Of course, with skillful play, we most likely could have been farther towards where we wanted to be at that point, so maybe there's no difference. Anyway.

Corporate warfare oh yeah. Actually I prefer the war as I find hitting enter a lot kind of boring. yawn.....

I like having GK as PA too he's got a sh*tload of cavalry. Soooo cool that you are a teacher of chemistry. That's a field that has lots of applications. I like that you had Cathy take the heat off Saladin. We need him for the UN but I imagine with Washington's cities we will have enough.

Still Lurking
Just finished my version. At 1800 I got 6 settled GM; 57 gpt from trades and a mere 13,000 in the bank.
Researched CS, Machinery, Paper, Education, Banking, Liberalism (Economics), Gunpwder,Chemistry, traded for feudalism, guilds, philosophy, theology.Switched off research after chemistry (c1650).
Ran Pacifism for a large hunk of the game to generate the GMs. Got a GS first for academy, bureaucracy, cottage based research in capital.
Got involved in a long tedious war with Isabella, she pillaged ,I razed a couple of her cities. War ended after I went to FR and bribed a couple of neighbours to declare on her .

Edit: used markets and grocers for merchant specialists, didn't build NE though did build HE for a military production city.
Compared to Warlords 2.08 vanilla monarch suddenly feels like prince, or even noble.

@pigswill: I don't have warlords, so I wouldn't know. But all the solo games I've been starting (though usually not finishing - I hardly ever finish any of my games b/c the late game gets so slow) have been on immortal, so this did seem a bit easy to me. Odd, huh. ;) By the way, thanx for the update on your side game.

Game report to follow.

I just have a quick report for you all here. I only played 6 turns, through 1960 because we popped another great merchant and we finished industrialism. Thus, we have some choices. First, we can start a golden age with our GM instead of merging him. This could be quite beneficial. I figure it can't hurt that much since we're not really direct traders any more anyway. :mischief:

The other choice we have to make is whether we're going to just spam the crap out of panzers to try to take on Cathy. Keep in mind, this is what power looks like - a bit intimidating. :crazyeye:

Civ4ScreenShot0013.JPG

In any case, the actual things of interest that I did during my turns are the following:

I took advantage of our new PA status to get more of something we wanted:

Civ4ScreenShot0001.JPG

And Cathy seems to have sensed that there's something amiss, as she gave us the following proposal:

Civ4ScreenShot0011.JPG

As is highlighted, I caved on this one. Oh well.

And our hostile takeover in Atlanta succeeded. We have two stacks on the move towards Washington.
(save above)

I accidentally played 1 more turn ... :crazyeye:

Anyway, why are we building the Oxford with 0% science? I changed it to Wall Street.

I decided get us something useful while not affecting GK:

Then he decided to gift us something:

hansa-AD1965-GK.jpg

Geez ... look at his messages ... give me the creeps ...

"I'm f'cking straight, ok!!!!"

War wise we got Washington:

hansa-AD1963-washington.jpg

and razed Boston (I wanted to keep it, but the culture border made me think otherwise ...

hansa-AD1967-boston.jpg

I regretted later ... well .. whatever.

hansa-AD1969-cathy-apollo.jpg

What's more disturbing is the fact that Cathy built the Apollo ... i don't know if she will declare on Sally again ... we could try to bride her into one though.

And we have panzers ...

hansa-AD1968-panzer.jpg

:woohoo:

Diplomatic front, we got the UN:

hansa-AD1965-UN.jpg

But look at sally ...

hansa-AD1968-UN-votes.jpg

Hmmm .... we need his votes, I think. So we have to make cathy war with Sally and backstab her.

I read somewhere we are aiming for a GAge, so changed the specialists constituents in Visby and Brunges. I've also purposely turn some specialists in Brunges to citizens to allow Visby to catch up., so that we can generate 2 great persons one after the other in a short ime (Visby first, then Brunges). Hopefully one of them will give us a non-merchant non-artists GPerson.

>>> The Save (1971AD) <<<

As usual "Herr Greyfox" well played. I think that makes me up and we should be able to wrap this up soon.

Geez ... look at his messages ... give me the creeps ...

"I'm f'cking straight, ok!!!!"

Do we have a homophobe amongst us? He who needs to reassure their sexuality is quite often confused about it. Having grown up in a pretty liberal society (not Canada although pretty liberal too) I tend to look at sexuality as a preference and not something to fear. No matter this has been going on since the beginning of time. BTW just bugging ya Greyfox something I like to do. Good thing you are straight maybe GK won't hit on you anymore. PS: Civ4 certainly not representing GK very well. He might have said this instead:
Did you know you are my hero but in my dreams I would take my sword and cut you in half. Have a nice day. He was a psycho and would tell villages before plundering them give up now or I kill everyone women and children. Do you think he would say something so stupid????

So this too is "got it" and won't be able to play until tomorrow. (slight chance today just slight though)

Yes I recognize the lyrics... just like to bug Greyfox though.....

Wind Beneath My Wings? ... fair enough, the mongols idolize eagles, so wind beneath my wings is quite related I guess

Re: sally's vote, good thinking, soooo (how many 'o' was that?). Although I don't think it is necessary. Assuming no change in total world population, a diplomatic win requires roughly 62% of 813 = 504 votes. We already had 496 votes (assuming Toku will vote for GK, whom he is friendly with). We need only a mere 7 pop.

I suggest growing as much as possible. Swicth every city to focus on food. Assimilate the remaining city of Washy. We don't even need a war with Cathy ... but it is always fun to have war involving panzers :)

The new Hansa corporation has accomplished much in hostile takeovers and was embarking on another. Van Helsing felt that it wouldn’t be long before the entire sector was under the Hansa corporation. Hansa’s new secret weapon was being produced in large numbers to finish off the American corporation whilst having help from the Tyrannus corporation and The Japan Corp. The Japan Corp proved to be a good ally and managed to take Philadelphia.

During this time many cities were tweaked for growth and farms were being built in newly conquered cities.

In the year 1975 another vote was put forth and we managed to win in 1976 a diplomatic vote without getting a chance to use one Panzer.

I did contemplate Soooo’s idea of going to theocracy and then Buddhism but the turns of anarchy would slow things down too much I believe and when I saw that Japan Inc took Philly I felt that he would have enough votes as well as tweaking all the cities for growth.

Here is the last save (after winning) and the replay. Nice playing and finishing the game although we didn't make the variants.

See in you in SG world........Cosmichail
