A simple question but which has troubled me for some time now and I haven't found a clear answer.

Are "hammers" replacing the traditional shields when building?

I think they do, but that's one of those really secondary issues. Hammers or shields..who cares

well hammers seem a little more realistic interms of explaining how things are produced... to make a airport i need 100 shields... to make a airport i need 100 hammers...

one of those make a lot more sense

but in realaty its just a graphical and vocabulary change... nothing to...... civ shattering

Yeah I know, I just wanted to know. It seems weird though that they are changing such an irrelevant thing away from its traditions. I mean, if it doesn't matter (like it doesn't) why take a risk of further alienating old civ...err...fanatics?

I think they'll be reddish-orangeish, but I can't really remember why I think so. Must be some screen I have seen, but can't remember which, where it was, how to find it, what was on it (except for hammers I guess) or when it was. :p

Hammers make more sense than shields, but in the big picture, you don't build things with hammers either. You build things with BUILDING MATERIALS.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOooooooooooooooooooooo..........................

shields stay!

All of you are saying this, but I'm sure that a month after Civ4 is released everybody will be talking about hammers, not shields.

Nah, there'll be a bunch of old-timers who won't be able to break free of the shield habit... then again, we might write 'hammers' in our posts, but it will take a lot of type type backspace (as we inadvertantly write 'shields')...

Hammers, shields, whatever. It was hammers in Colonization and no one had problems with it, why now in Civ4?

the only important thing is that we can differentiate if we say spt, cpt, gpt, fpt, so now we have hpt, hope they won't change the rest but since health is introduced I see a potential problem...hpt = health per turn or hammers per turn?

what was the health aspect of the game again? i dont think it makes sense to use the term "health per turn" therefore this wont be a problem.
