Handy 22 Always War C4 Noble

I don't know if you guys found this out or not, but 1.09 has changed police state to no WW. However, it might take effect only on new saves.
could it be that our feedback was noticed by Firaxis and they modified this? Anyway, that's good news, no need for jails and Rushmore then

unfortunately the info on WW is not correct. police state still gives only 50% WW off

I make most of the changes Rat suggested. I let the worker complete. A lot of things seem to be not so right with our cities, but since this is only the third time I’ve played, I’m gonna trust you guys.

IBT – Economics=>Combustion (in hindsight this was the wrong tech to go for.)

1805 - Sink some American transports. At Heliopolis – We run out of units to attack and a pike is left standing. Likewise we kill all but a Japanese catapult. I hate splitting forces.

IBT – Nada

1810 - Kill the last Japanese unit. Wait at the gates of Heliopolis for reinforcements. Found Frozenandgad on a frozen island. That is probably a :smoke: move.

IBT – Nada

Finally at Heliopolis –

1815- March next to Pi-Ramesses. I’ll wait until we have our entire force before attacking. There are some priniciples that haven’t changes. Attacking in force so that the opposition cannot reinforce is one of those.

IBT – Lose a cav to a war elephant.

1820 - Bugsy’s lesson for this turn. When bombarding with a catapult, make sure you push the bombard button. Catapults can also attack and they usually do a fairly poor job.

We see that the defenders are hurting in Pi-Ramesses so we attack. Bugsy’s second lesson of the turn. Watch where you right click. You will suddenly send your units marching off somewhere unintended. Good thing we are playing a low level.

(Note - the rifles sitting in the woods next to the city. That would be my mis-clicks.)

And so ends Bugsy’s first day of Civ IV AW. More tomorrow

A lot of things seem to be not so right with our cities, but since this is only the third time I’ve played, I’m gonna trust you guys. I'm still learning too. If you have a question... sound off.

Watch where you right click.
There is an option to enable right click which makes the right click a little more like a C3 right click. I did this on my machine which will stop what you experienced. Still, the C3 right click is waaaaaay better than the C4 right click. UI was better in C3, and of course I miss my map stat.

Day Two – Go through the cities after studying the manual some more and reading Sullla’s tutorial a bit more. BTW, thanks Sullla and Sirian for some excellent training discourses.
IBT: combustion=>Assembly Line (well I thought I had AL selected but it makes me research corporation first? What is up with that one)

1825 – I find out that you can no longer bombard units in the open with a catapult. You can only bombard cities. Lose a rifle killing a Japanese grenadier.

1830 – Mao has a loaded Galleon sailing the east coast of Egypt. Send a frigate to intercept. A Japanese city has expanded to where Pi-Ramesses was. The strategic rail net back home is nearly complete from south to north.

IBT – Kill a catapult. Corporation=>A.L.

1835 – Michael Faraday appears and we have him build an academy for more science. Sink the loaded Chinese galleon. We are marching on Memphis and Giza. We get paid for pillaging. We are presently able to pay for each turn’s deficit spending through our pillaging.

1840 – Pick off a Japanese unit. Continue gathering units at Giza and Memphis.

1845 – Reduce Giza’s defenses to 0%. Can’t get any of the defenders though. Another change. Anyway, we kill the four defenders and…

IBT – A.L. => Fascism (due in three)

1850 – At Memphis we kill everything but a catapult. Here is the situation:

Here are the approaches to Elephantine.

We need to build an east coast city in Egypt. I realize that was what the settler was for, but it would have helped to have that spelled out in the pass down.

And here is the save: http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads10/Greebley_AD-1850.Civ4SavedGame

Greebs probably realizes this now, but next time we should name the player “Handy22”

I agree a foothold on the other continent is needed. By the way, is arilifting still possible in Civ4? We need to be fast with razing, maybe once we have tanks, we forget about artillery, tanks have the possibility of collateral as well.

By the way, Bugs and Obormot. When you played your turns, how laggy was the game. When I play those turns now with map revelaed and many units, it's almost to a point where the game is unbearable (this is just a standard map, it troubles me). Maybe I need more ram (only have 512mb).

I also have 512mb ram and my video card is not that great too, but it worked fine for me. It was a bit laggy at times when i was zooming in and out, but that's about all. I played all with graphics settings at maximum and with the highest resolution.

What what is is worth I have tracked the usage at mostly 600-700MB, but saw it got to just over 1GB a few times.

I use Pent 3.06GH with 1GB ram, but if you have at least 1.5GB pagefile it should help. Video card I am still not sure of how much memory and speed is useful.

I can say this: I had an FX5500 128MB card with latest drivers and had painting issues and crashes at times.

I replaced it saturday with Radeon X700 PRO with 256MB of DDr3 an 8 pipelines. I have not had any more painting issues or crashes.

Still in a Prince domination game I had a few spots where I waited for the IBT to finish. Note this was at a point where I had eliminated at least 3 civs and one more was getting hammered. IOW I did not see any movement from anyone else. I had one "pleased" civ and no ships were moving that were not mine.

In full screen mode it was pretty slow. On day two I went to windows mode and while the interface was a little harder to deal with, the game was much faster.

6. Obormot -

At last we have a full team. Make sure you are patched up to 1.09.

You need an airport in a city to lift one unit per turn to any city on the world (no airport required in the target city!).
Yes - apparently they just land on the highway.

Next game - Map will be Lake, Inland Sea or Pangaea. Each has pros & cons. I think we could beat a Monarch game on Inland Sea and possibly Emperor since the front is narrow and as you move east or west you hit a black wall [cannot circumnavigate]. This is good for war since you can leave cities on the edge of the map unguarded, but feels a little like cheating. Inland Sea AWPrince was too easy because of the lack of east west movement. I hope a patch of Inland Sea will allow for east to west movement since it is a nice map option. On a lake map I played you could move east to west all the way around. I have not tried Pangaea yet.

It's nice to see our team back in full strength.

Thanks about the info about airports, I guess airfields are no longer in existence. That's a pity. But, looking at the game, we are in razing mode already. Very nice indeed, we just need to make sure, the UN is not completed by someone else.

I played the first IBT. Fortunately, I was going through all the cities and noticed a bunch of units next to Hovd that were not ours. It had a single Keshik vs grenadiers and such. I was able to get some units into the town, but they were all weak so I upgraded, spending most of our cash.

We do not seem sufficiently protected vs AI landings. I think I need to fix this as top priority or we may start losing towns. We also had unhappiness that would be fixed by more units at home.

For this reason, I will not be adding units to the current attacking force during my turns.

Have the AI been good at landings? I am assuming not due to our weak home defense. Is that because they didn't have Galleons?

I saw zero landings during the turns I played - but that may have been before Galleons. In past AWN solo games landings were rare, but when they come they do seem to bring a decent more units relative to the small C3 landings we are used to.

there were no landings so far at all. The issue is that Bugs might also not have noticed that or that they simply landed on the IT.
The animations of enemy movement are so badly done in Civ4 that they can slip into your home territory without you even noticing. A small redish 'enemy unit sighted near xxx' is all you get and you might simply overlook it and before you know it, lost a city. Happened to me already.
I wonder why the enemy movement isn't even highlighted by zooming in. Very weak aspect of the game IMHO.

If you pop up F5 and select any civ you are at war with you can see any of their units in you line of sight. That should cover any units that can strike on their turn.

They will show up with their civ color. A pain, but more reliable than trying to eye ball the whole map, especially after you have lots of land under control.
