I'm playing Aztecs and have taken over UR a size 9 city;I have got mikes and womens Suff, but UR is in an extreme state of un-happiness. Do the Wonders work for captured major citys or what???
Maybe this is a game glitch...I can,t figure it out,any ideas please!

Switch to a government that suppresses the masses more easily or sacrifice Ur's industry, food production and trade to make Elvises.

Women's Suffrage won't do anything for the happiness of your towns like Mike's does. It only eliminates the unhappiness caused by troops being away from the city in representative governments.

If you're in a Democracy and have just captured a city then the first thing you need to do is to hire as many Elvii as is necessary to stop them revolting or else you'll lose your entire government that way. After that you can have a look at the city screen and then reduce the number of Elvii slowly as you build improvements to control the luxuries. The missed turn of one city after capture with all the Elvii working is much better than an entire missed turn in Anarchy. You can't be overcautious! :D

When you capture a city forcefully (rather than buying it) you lose all the happiness improvements. Your wonders still apply, but distance from your capital can also be a factor, depending upon government type. Also, I believe you need to rebuild trade routes. So switch citizens to Elvis until the unhappiness is contained, then check the Happy button and compare it to one of your home cities. Add improvements and rehome military units while reducing Elvis until you are back in business.

Wonders work, but the turn you capture a city, all bets are off. Be sure to create enough elvii to cover the first turn, than on the next turn, check the city. The wonders should kick in and calm the natives down. Depending on your government and difficulty level, and the number of cities, you may/will need to put in a temple and/or a marketplace soon.

...no enemy or any of my units outside the city
...republic at warlord
...temple at size seven
...I can make some entertainers, but don't understand why I am having this problem with this city and not with other comparitive citys
Thanks for all the replys ,folks!

If you're a Republic or Democracy, it also may be that when you captured Ur, the Babylonins had troops off somewhere else on the map. It's happened to me a couple of times. I can't stop the unhappiness, and discover ten turns later that the problem was two phalanxs that are 10 squares away.
Or maybe these people just liked being Babylonians. No one likes it when a hostile foreign nation invades their homeland.

It could also depend on you have more black guys in your city. Troops being closer and city is far away from home. Giving them some luxuries or elvii would then solve the problem easily:)

Press the hapiness button in the city window to see what makes you citizens happy or angry. You can see how luxuries, happiness improvements, martial law, units outside the city and wonders affect your citizens.

Do you have many cities? In that case you will have double unhappy (black) citizens. They are best treated with luxuries, but if Ur is far away from your capital there will be a lot of corruption there since you are in republic. Also, there may not be enough roads around Ur and no marketplace.
