Hardest difficulty you have beaten the game on!

I just won my first game on Warlord...Spaceship, ~2030 AD (I think it was 2029). I've got a lot to learn, but I'm progressing at least! So far, I have won Spaceship, Diplomatic, and Time (failed diplo) victories. The next closest on space race was Saladin, with the casings and thrusters but nothing else, and missing techs to get the rest. I would estimate that Saladin MAY have been able to build the spaceship by 2050 IF he was lucky...but most likely it would have ended on time otherwise (with Saladin or Kublai Khan winning--Saladin was ahead on score most of the game, but Kublai was rapidly gaining ground...I was #3.)

EMPEROR, Marathon, Large map, No Barbarians, NO TECHNOLOGY TRADING, Persians, CONQUEST 1532AD, under Patch 1.52, score 62679, turned other victory conditions off.

It was a chalenge and a lesson for me. I passed :D

My neighbour Incan attacked me, and this was not I susspected. My plans were building an army. Thans to Huyana Capac, my victory was acceleraded over 300 years. I did some reloads, but not many. The point is that I learned not to fear to attack.

Tried play on the same condiotion, but on Immortal. I didn't make it. The maintanance (under v. 1.52) rapidly rose, so building cities was very difficult.

Slavery, very good civic. Costs No Upkeep, which is very important under version 1.52. Later in your Golden Age (of conquest), you can very fast construct courthouse by forcing people to work.

No I'm gonna try Immortal or Deity Game on normal conditions. Nation, I don't know yet.

one level below monarch. is that prince or noble?

well, one of those games i was very close to a cultural victory, but roosevelt made it for the space race, but the one i won, i was actually going for tech victory, but missed it for a couple of turns, didn't have aluminium, so it ended a point victory. lame.

now, i m doing the most idiotic thing ever: chose a huge map with islands on low sea level and i m going for cultural victory. AND i didn't go for religions. it's on monarch and i'm waaay behind. but, i am quite fine for culture, just by far not enough. well, lets see what synagoge, confuzu aca and maybe some wonders can do.

Monarch so far. I’ve tried Emperor a couple of times…. but I find it so boring to be so far behind in the tech race so I haven’t finished a game on that level.

Hell, I haven't even finished a single game yet, probably Noble Marathon Domination or Diplomacy.

I have been playing the settler level at least once a week, but I haven’t yet finished a game on that level.:(

Just won my first Prince...I'll try this out for a few more, then its on to Monarch

IMMORTAL, Marathon speed, Incan, DOMINATION 1678 AD, Large Map, 60017 VP, default conditions (only No Barbarians set on).

Cities Built?
5!!!

Now gonna have a break. Then try default conditions (even Barbarians on) on Deity. Unfortunately Incan don't have Immortals, only Quecha. For me the most immortant nations are: Organized or Financial. Why? Cause making money is very immortant at the beggining of the game. Religion is also important. Spread your religion around the world, wait for somebody builds Mahabedi, Temple of Salomon or else. And then conquer him and watch the money come to you :D. At the beggining all the opponents are defensless, so don't waste the time and attack.

Hmmmmm. I wonder ... I promised myself to try play as China, but I realize that I won't succeed this nation. Washington? Organized and Financial ... is to consider. Maybe Persians again :D. Or Tokugawa: Organized, Agrresive and Samurai immune to first strikes. Or Ceasar again.

See you next time ...

-------------------------------------------------------

Tried play deity, but Everyone had twice many cities as I did. Doubled research for AI players causes that Marathon speed converts to Quick and it's very difficult to win war without upgradeing enemy's units. Only often reloads or quick rush guarantees chance of survival. But it only theory. Will I try Deity again? I doubt, but everything's possible ...

-------------------------------------------------------

Heh ... tryin deity still. This game addicts very much :] Set game to NEW SEED ON RELOAD. Then started loading/reloading to collect all possible advances. It wasn't very comfortable job. Just like going to work :(. I wonder why none settler appeared in tribal villages. Collected: Mathematics, Construction, Currency and Metal casting. Only resigned of Horsebackriding cause playing Persians. Then building army: 2 war elephant, 2 swordsman, 4 immortals and 2 catapults. Decided to attack Germans. And I feel that bigger reload is coming. Razed 2 cities and that's all. He flooded me his swordsman and chariots and I couldn't beat him despite of having a little advantage in weaponry. Defensive and Offensive war is needed ... that's certain. And I wonder if it's possible win the war without reloads. Maybe politics is neccesary ... 1 vs 2. Anyway war is interesting. I hope I will learn enough to win without permanent reloads. Finally war in civ4 is the most interesting part of the game. Maybe 10 minutes of contemplation before clicking 'end of turn' ...

... Time to sleep

I would have forgotten ... I tried quecha rush on duel map, game was quick and boring, but I won and was happy. How stupid things man sometimes do to prove himeself something. But what? I don't know ...

May I suggest you do this without the reloads before you go up one level :D

The same amount of reloads on Emperor and Immortal. On immortal mainly reloads were neccesary when got a victim of a sneaky attack. But there are some ways to avoid them: watching movings of rivals troops, watching civics ke chooses. But watching rivals moves ... I forget about it very often ... in fact ... it's much easier to reload the game and prepare the defense.

Just finished up my first win on monarch level...had been playing on nobel.

Finally ... DEITY, CONQUEST 1388AD, HUGE map, ROMANS, 10 opponents, 244.872 VP, speed Marathon, under patch 1.52, No Barbarians and New Random Seed on Reload, turned other victory conditions off

I resigned from my previous Persian Game. However, after short analysis, that game was to win. Only another units and different promotions. Swordsman promoted to Combat 1 and Cover (vs archery units). That makes them durable vs archery units and probably they face Spearman. Then immortals finish work.

So ... my Romans Game. Of course Pretorians. I exterminated 2 nations without Iron. It was easy and it was pleasure. Promoted to City Raider only. Third Nation (Incan) was destroyed in regular war. There was no resistance and I wonder why. Fourth Nation was destroyed in medieval way (Germans). Fifth nation (China) was destroyed with Cavalry and Grenadiers. It was hardest war. There was no war with use of Tanks. I built some of them, but research was rapid and I was little behind ... opponents had Mech-Infantry. However half of the world I conquered without modern tricks (and armours).
Only built two wonders Taj Mahal and of course Pentagon. I feel bad, cause I didn't built Hanging Gardens. Modern War lasted about One Hundred years.

I did the same trick as in my persian game. Collected almost all possible advances from tribal villages. However ancient game was of course most difficult and I needed luck to survive. And I had luck. After that, game was easier and easier. Did plenty of reloads, but there was no need to use them. None attacked me. I propose you to choose your rivals. Thanks to it, you know their reactions and character. For last few games I have choosen mine. I know that Gengis Khan will attack Washington sooner or later. Saladin never attacks anyone. Mao Zendong might attack you, but he is a real mercenary. It' s good to choose him. Pay him 2000 and he attacks your enemy (but eariler you must declare war on your enemy). He grows usually strong (I thing thanks to his philosophical skills) Huana Capac is very dangerous at the beggining. However it's worth to convert to his religion. Then your safe for sure. Bismarck ... I don't like him, he always has good military, and often attack me. It's to be considered to put him out of my list. Victoria is always weak. It is good to eksterminate her first. Gandhi and Isabella ... it was my first game with them, and I like them. Washington is also weak. However he might to attack you ... he is not to rely on. And Tokugawa, hehe, it's hard to make you his friend, but there's no problem when all around the world rules Buddism.

Before this game to nations were to be considered. Romans and Greeks. The second ones have Phalnx. I wanted them to be promoted to city raider. Maybe next game

I'm tired, but happy ...

I leave you with one save. the second one is too large. You can download go from here. It's my game :] (they work only under patch 1.52)

Monarch, Continents, Standard Map, Marathon, but only cultural victory so far. If I´m isolated on an island I usually go for a cultural victory. I don´t like the fact, that the score is so low, I have better scores on Noble (Domination). I think they should change the Scoring-System, I mean Monarch is way harder the Noble.

Perhaps one should be asking what the top level you've won without cheating?

If someone goes out of their way to mention a win with a new random seed on reloads, they are pretty likely reloading regularly.

I would be more impressed to see how well people are doing on random civ draws without reloads.

I'd rather get a deserved win on Prince or Monarch than reloading to win on Emporer, Immortal or even Deity.

Heh, belive me. You won't be immpressed, when someone wins on monarch level, cause lot of people did this and none asked one question to them. Only Emperor, Immortal and Deity are respected levels, even when you help yourself a bit. It's good way to explenate our lack of skills writing like you. Try deity first and then write the post. 2 months earlier deity was for me abstraction. I don't like reloads but I realize that I have to try higher level only to know what it is. Writing about deity without playing (non necessary winning) is out of place in here. I suppose you have bad attitude but I don't care. Just try deity that's all I can say.

I decided once to go lower levels with no making reloads. Some reloads I would always do, cause they are necesary when I forget to do something. And when I go to sleep ;). But now, when I beat deity, I resign from previous decision. I won't resign from deity level know, even if I have to do plenty reloads. First ... game must be constructive ... it must force you to think and to get better. Only higher levels serve this. It's stupidity to go lower level when you beat higher. And belive me ... many people beat deity with no reloads since now. Only it's just a waste of time to spend their time in place like this :]. Civ3 and HoMM4 took year and half of my life. I hope that I won't be dissapoined now. Even now I realize that there are many things to learn and to get better.

See you next time ...

P.S. I left my savegame, so you can see how many units I lost and you can decide if I was cheating or not. But I don't care. I wonna wait for a truth admirer (joke) ...
