Hardest game to beat

I thought it was ABAB?

That code worked for a lot of Nintendo games.

G&G was friggin' impossible. Frustrating, but addictive.

I remember it being "up, up, down, down, left, right, left, right, B, A, Start"

E.T.
Gradius is impossible but I tried quite a bit.

For me the only real hard games where those old console jump'n'runs and beat em ups. contra, ghouls 'n ghosts and those beat em ups on the Neo Geo... those where times, not those easy games the kids play today :p

The 7th Saga for SNES. Also the most frusturating game ever.

The Nintendo code, which worked exclusively on Konami games was:

"Up, up, down, down, left, right, left, right, B, A, Select, Start."

This code gave you all kinds of goodies on various Konami games, but it didn't work on all of them.

I agree that G&G may be the most impossible game to beat ever made. I think I may have beat it once, or at least gotten to the last level. In the arcade, I never could seem to make it through Rampart. Also, the D&D quiz game was damn near impossible - I once spent $6 trying to beat it, and didn't even come close. Actually, the other D&D arcade games were incredibly hard, as well.

Star Trek Away Team. I stink at RTS. :(

Is that why you like Civ3 so much? ;)

BTW, the code referred to earlier is generally called the "Konami Code," since it only works for Konami's games. It also works for SNES games, though you have to use the R and L buttons instead of Left and Right.

Streetfighter 2 (SNES) on hardest level was a real tough nut to crack - That bloody M Bison just kept tap-dancing on my head.

Getting all the stars on Mario 64 was a real challenge too.

Didn't have any real probs with Deus Ex - great game that one!

Rush'n Attack and Top Gun (NES) brough me to tears.

Rambo (RPG; NES) was one of the reasons I bought another Nintendo System...I pounded on the old one so much it didn't work!

Contra is virtually IMPOSSIBLE without the Konami code. When I learned that code, I loved the game.

Could any of ya'll beat Mike Tyson on Mike Tyson Punch Out?

I would be able to get a few punches in, but I'd never be able to knock him out...I couldn't get the timing right consistently enough. That and the fact that one of his punches levels you, well, that pretty much was the end of it for me.

A friend of mine could beat him every time - he just had the timing down.

One of those times on NES where having the Advantage with Turbo didn't help at all.

I loved Punchout that game was great! I could never get passed the second Bad Boy Bull though. (I think that's what his name was)

Contra was easy with the cheat, impossiable without.

Ghosts and Ghouls was impossiable

I'm glad I'm not the only one that had problems with Iron Mike.....thank God for the Game Genie.....I put his arse in place then. :)

Asw far as I know... no one in the world has beat Quake III on nightmare yet. They say there is a special surprise if you do.

I beat Tyson once (I assume you mean the original NES), and only once. After that, I only got past the previous guy a couple of times. :(

I also managed to beat Top Gun only once, but I was using the Advantage, so it doesn't really count.

Murder on the Mississippi, coulden't finish it... an old game on Commodore 64... I was a bit younger though... Still - I wish I had finished it, wish I still had it so that I could finish it!!

I don't remember the name of the game, but it came out in the mid-'90s. The premise was that you were the commander of a US nuclear submarine, and the decisions you made affected the storyline - as to what scenes they would show next, etc. I remember playing it on and off for a couple of months, and never getting a resolution.

It was a pretty well made game for the time, other than a lack of "action" I liked the move-style presentation and sort of self-determination involved. It was similar to the "Star Trek: Borg" (IIRC the title) where you were sent back in the timeline to play your father and save starfleet from being wiped out or whatever. Didn't quite finish that game either (no "save" game ability) and I can't find either of those games now. :(
