Hardware requirements

Oh well, it was the only developed save I could find on the forums. If we don't want to use that one, someone would need to post another save.

I started a game yesterday. Let's see how far I can get in the next week or so, and I'll post the save.

Ok so I figured this would be the best thread to post in about this...how do I know if my graphics card is 1GB? I meet/exceed all the system reqs except I'm not sure about my graphics card. In the system information window, under "Display," is "Adapter RAM" the value to look at (running Win7 64-bit)

Press the windows button on your task bar. Where it says "search programs and files," or something along those lines, type "dxdiag". This will take you to a screen that has all of your system specs. One of the tabs on the top will have to do with your graphics card specifically. Hope this helps.

I'm assuming I'm looking at the "approx total memory" value? If so, then I have over 3 GB :)

That idea of posting a save for folk to compare turn processing times is an excellent one, and once I work out how to post a save I'll do it with the game I mentioned at the start of the thread.

That's far more likely to be your system RAM (though if you have more than 2GB and a 32 bit OS, it will be wasted without jumping through some hoops). I seriously doubt you have 3GB GPU RAM, though integrated "cards" do share system RAM.

EDIT---IOW, what you did in post #22 should suffice
You don't need 1GB graphics RAM, and I don't know where you got the idea that you do. I have a GPU with 128MB onboard and it shares 1.5GB with the system RAM, and it works fine with 4GB total RAM.

Ok. I guess since it's outdated the requirements could've been changed, but I got that idea from this post.

Those requirements are a bit outdated, I can play the mod fine with an integrated card that can handle a max of 338 MB, so I figure you'll be able to play.

Koshling would it be possible to make the game utilize more then one core. RIght now i have a quad-core computer and most people have computers with more then one core.

The code changes are significant so while there are definitely quite some applications for multithreading I'd not count on them being introduced fast.

Yeh, it's likely to make the minor instabilities from viewport development look like a walk in the park trying to do much in thi direction. It's a big oproject. For now there is more (low hanging) mileage in optimizing what we have. If you have cases that run especially slowly post them for anlaysis.
